Round 998 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin plunges beneath the surface, the water rushes up to meet her, threatening to drag her down. She manages to grab onto a jagged rock formation, her fingers scraping against the rough stone. The Guardian is mere feet behind her, its hot breath visible in the chilly air. The current begins to pull her downstream, carrying her further away from the bridge. Suddenly, a massive chunk of stone falls from the bridge above, crashing into the water with a deafening roar. The Guardian's cry of rage echoes through the tunnel as it realizes its chance to catch Merrin is slipping away.
I feel my heart pounding in my chest as I struggle against the current, my fingers aching from the strain of clinging to the jagged rock formation. The water rushes past me, threatening to drag me under at any moment. I know I can't stay here - the Guardian is still out there somewhere, and it won't be long before it finds a way to reach me. With a grunt of effort, I haul myself up onto the stone ledge, my muscles burning from the exertion. I take a moment to catch my breath, my chest heaving as I try to steady myself. But I know I can't afford to linger here. Varikka is out there somewhere, hurt and alone, and I refuse to let fear stop me from trying to save her. I scan the area frantically, searching for any sign of solid ground or a way to reach higher ground. The tunnel walls loom above me, slick with moisture and barely visible in the dim light. But then, in the distance, I spot a narrow ledge jutting out from the wall, partially obscured by the swirling currents. It's risky, but it may be my only chance at reaching Varikka. I take a deep breath, steeling myself as I prepare to make the leap. The Guardian's cries echo through the tunnel behind me, a constant reminder of the danger that awaits if I fail. With a surge of adrenaline, I push off from the ledge, my arms pinwheeling as I sail through the air. For a heart-stopping moment, I'm suspended over the churning waters below, the sheer drop seeming to stretch out forever beneath me. Then, with a grunt of effort, I land hard on the narrow ledge, my hands scrabbling for purchase on the wet stone. I feel the ledge shift ominously under my weight, but I manage to stabilize myself just as it begins to crumble away. I know I can't linger here - the Guardian will be upon me in moments. Scanning the area frantically, I spot another small ledge a short distance away, partially obscured by the swirling currents. It's a risk, but it may be my only chance at reaching Varikka. I take a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest as I prepare to make the next leap. The Guardian looms behind me, its presence a constant threat, but I push that fear aside. I will not let anything stop me from reaching Varrika - not even the very real danger that awaits me on this precarious path. As I leap for the next ledge, I can only pray that my gamble pays off. The swirling waters rush up to meet me, and for a moment, everything goes dark as I plunge beneath the surface... I feel myself being carried downstream, the current dragging me further away from the ledge with each passing second. My lungs burn as I struggle to hold my breath, my arms and legs thrashing wildly in an attempt to stay afloat. Suddenly, my hand brushes against something solid - a rock or a root jutting out from the tunnel wall. With a burst of desperate energy, I reach out and grab onto it, using every ounce of strength in my body to haul myself up and out of the water. I gasp for air as I cling to the root, my chest heaving with exertion. The current continues to rush past me, threatening to drag me back under at any moment. But I know I can't afford to let it stop me now. Varikka is out there somewhere, hurt and alone, and I refuse to let fear or exhaustion hold me back.
