Round 993 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's voice is strained as she cries out for help, her injured ankle thrashing against the current. Merrin rushes to her side, grabbing hold of her arm to steady her. The Guardian emerges from the darkness, its eyes fixed intently on the pair, its massive strides eating up the distance between them. As it closes in, the ground beneath Varikka's feet gives way once more, and she tumbles down into the icy waters, her screams echoing through the churning stream.
Varikka's scream pierces the air as she's swept away by the surging torrent. I lunge forward, my fingers grazing her outstretched hand before she vanishes into the swirling waters. "Varikka!" My voice echoes off the crumbling walls, lost in the roar of the current. Heart pounding, I scan the churning stream, searching for any sign of my fallen comrade. The Guardian looms behind me, its presence a constant threat as I struggle to keep my footing on the slick stones. Fear grips my heart as I realize the extent of our danger. We're trapped in this ancient tower, pursued by an implacable foe and at the mercy of treacherous terrain. Varikka's injury leaves her vulnerable, and now she's been swept away by the current, potentially trapped or drowning. I'm alone and pursued by The Guardian in the main corridor with no clear path forward or escape route. I know I should be looking for a way to help Varikka, but the relentless pursuit of The Guardian makes it nearly impossible to focus on anything else. Every step could lead to a deadly collapse, and I can't afford to take my eyes off the path ahead. I'm terrified of being swept away again, of drowning or being crushed by falling debris. But I can't abandon Varikka, not after everything we've been through together. She's my friend, my ally in this dark and dangerous place. I have to find a way to reach her, to save her from whatever horrors await her in the depths of this cursed tower. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. Then, with a grunt of effort, I start to wade through the icy waters, my eyes scanning the churning stream for any sign of Varikka's form. The current is strong, threatening to sweep me off my feet at any moment, but I push forward, my determination unwavering. I know the risks are high, but I can't turn back now. I have to keep moving, keep searching until I find a way to save my friend. It's the only thing that matters, the only goal that could possibly justify the danger we're in. With each step, I feel the weight of the tower bearing down on me, the ancient magic failing with every passing second. But I don't have time to be afraid. I have to keep moving forward, keep pushing through the darkness until I find a way out of this hellish place. And if Varikka is still alive, still fighting for survival in the depths of this cursed tower, then I will find her. No matter the cost.
