Round 991 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's mace slices through the air, striking The Guardian with a resounding crash. The creature stumbles back, its eyes widening in surprise, but it quickly recovers and charges forward once more. Varikka readies her weapon, bracing herself for the impact. Suddenly, the ground beneath her feet gives way, and she finds herself tumbling down into the darkness below. She manages to grab onto a jagged metal outcropping, her injured ankle screaming in protest as she hangs suspended.
I freeze, my heart pounding in my chest as I hear the sound of Varikka's mace striking The Guardian. For a moment, I allow myself to hope that she might be able to hold the creature at bay, to buy us enough time to escape. But then the ground beneath her feet gives way, and I watch in horror as she tumbles down into the darkness below. "Varikka!" I cry out, my voice echoing off the crumbling walls. I rush forward, my eyes scanning the pit for any sign of her. There - a flash of movement, a glint of metal against stone. She's alive, but barely. I can see the strain in her muscles as she clings to the jagged outcropping, her injured ankle screaming in protest. I know I should run, should save myself while I still can. But I can't abandon Varikka, not like this. Not when she needs me most. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. Then, with a grunt of effort, I start to lower myself down into the pit. The descent is treacherous, the walls slick with moisture and the air thick with the scent of decay. But I don't have time to be careful. Varikka needs me now, and I won't let her down. As I reach the bottom of the pit, I see her struggling to pull herself up, her strength fading with every passing second. "Hold on, Varikka," I call out, my voice echoing off the crumbling walls. "I'm coming."
I rush forward, my hands grasping for purchase on the slick stones. I can feel the weight of the tower bearing down on us from all sides, the ancient magic failing with every passing second. But I push the thought from my mind, focusing instead on Varikka's outstretched hand. Together, we haul her up and over the edge of the pit, our hearts pounding in unison as we brace ourselves for whatever horrors may lie ahead. I know we don't have much time left, but I also know that we can't give up now. We have to keep fighting, keep pushing forward until we find a way out of this hellish place. In this turn, I:
- React instinctively to help Varikka out of the pit
- Express urgency and determination to save her
- Acknowledge the danger posed by the crumbling tower
- Prepare mentally for the challenges ahead
I do not:
- Claim responsibility for Varikka's safety or the party's survival
- Suggest going back or avoiding the pit
- Describe the pit or its potential consequences in detail
- Use any gendered language about myself or Varikka, as we are both women
