Round 987 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin leads Varikka through the hidden door, the air thickens with the scent of decay and something ancient and wrong. The narrow corridor stretches out before them, its walls adorned with more of the unsettling carvings that seem to watch their every move. The sound of The Guardian's pursuit grows louder, echoing off the walls as they creep forward. Varikka's injured ankle throbs in protest as she leans on Merrin for support, her eyes scanning the darkness warily. Suddenly, a section of the corridor floor gives way beneath Varikka's weight, sending a hidden pit trap springing open with a sickening crunch. Varikka's foot tumbles through the air, narrowly avoiding the depths below. Merrin reacts instinctively, lunging forward to grab Varikka's arm and yank her to safety just as the pit trap slams shut behind her. The sound is deafening, and the ground shudders beneath their feet as the corridor begins to shift and tremble. A low rumble builds in intensity, threatening to send them tumbling once more.
I yank Varikka back from the edge of the pit trap just in time, my heart pounding in my chest. The sound of her footstep on the false floor echoes in my ears like a death knell, and I can't shake the feeling that we've just narrowly avoided a fate worse than death. "Careful!" I hiss, my eyes darting to the shifting walls around us. "This whole place is falling apart."
Varikka nods, her face pale and drawn in the dim light. She takes a tentative step back from the pit, wincing as her injured ankle protests the movement. "I owe you one," she mutters, her voice barely audible over the ominous creaking of the crumbling stone. I shake my head, my eyes scanning the corridor ahead for any other hidden traps or dangers. "Save your thanks," I say grimly. "We're not out of this yet."
As if on cue, the sound of The Guardian's pursuit grows louder, echoing off the walls like the tolling of a funeral bell. I can feel the weight of its presence bearing down on us, and I know that we don't have much time left. "Come on," I say, reaching out to steady Varikka as she limps forward. "We need to find a way out of here before it's too late."
Together, we creep forward into the darkness, our hearts pounding in unison as we brace ourselves for whatever horrors may lie ahead. In this turn, I:
- React instinctively to pull Varikka back from the pit trap
- Express concern about the instability of the tower
- Acknowledge Varikka's thanks but focus on the urgency of the situation
- Perceive The Guardian's approach growing louder and more ominous
- Offer support and encouragement to Varikka as we continue our escape
- Prepare mentally for the challenges ahead
I do not:
- Claim responsibility for Varikka's safety or the party's survival
- Suggest going back or avoiding the pit trap
- Describe the pit trap or its potential consequences in detail
- Use any gendered language about myself or Varikka, as we are both women
