Round 978 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's fingers close around the heavy mace, but her grip falters as the oily substance on the floor causes her to slip. The mace clatters to the ground, and the Guardian takes advantage of the distraction, its razor-sharp talons flashing in the dim light as it lunges forward. Varikka stumbles back against the rune-covered wall, her injured ankle throbbing with each movement. Merrin looses another bolt at the beast, but it grazes Varikka's shoulder, sending her stumbling further back.
I let out a sharp gasp as Varikka's fingers slip on the mace, the heavy weapon clattering to the ground. My heart pounds in my chest as I watch the Guardian lunge forward, its razor-sharp talons flashing in the dim light. I loose another bolt at the beast, but it grazes Varikka's shoulder, sending her stumbling further back against the rune-covered wall. "Varikka!" I cry out, my voice strained with urgency. "We need to get out of here before the whole place comes down on top of us!"
She nods, gritting her teeth against the pain as she struggles to her feet once more. I can see the determination in her eyes, even as her body trembles with exhaustion and fear. I scan the chamber frantically, searching for any other means of escape or defense in this collapsing deathtrap. The oily substance on the floor has formed a small pool near the fallen mace, partially blocking my path. I know we must act quickly if we are to survive this. With a deep breath, I ready myself for whatever comes next, my hand tightening around the hilt of my crossbow. "Varikka," I call out, my voice strained with urgency. "Can you reach the mace? We need something more than our crossbows to stop this thing."
I know we are both exhausted, battered, and on the verge of collapse, but I also know that we cannot afford to give up now. The fate of the tower, and possibly even the world, rests in our hands. As Varikka limps towards the fallen mace once more, I take aim at the Guardian once again, my hands steady despite the fear coursing through my veins. "Stay focused," I mutter under my breath. "We can do this."
