As the chamber continues to convulse around them, the section of the pillar Varikka was standing on gives a loud creak and begins to shift. She stumbles, her injured ankle wincing in pain, but manages to catch herself against the nearby rune-covered wall just in time. The Guardian lunges forward, its razor-sharp talons slicing through the air mere inches from Varikka's face. Merrin looses another bolt at the beast, but it barely flinches, its pursuit undeterred. The ground gives a loud groan beneath their feet as another section of the tunnel ceiling collapses, sending a cascade of dust and debris raining down around them.

My heart pounds as I watch Varikka stumble, her injured ankle wincing in pain. The Guardian lunges forward, its razor-sharp talons slicing through the air mere inches from her face. I loose another bolt at the beast, but it barely flinches, its pursuit undeterred. As the ground gives a loud groan beneath our feet and another section of the tunnel ceiling collapses, sending a cascade of dust and debris raining down around us, I know we are running out of time. The chamber continues to convulse, threatening to bury us alive or crush us beneath falling masonry at any moment. "Varikka, can you move?" I call out, my voice strained with urgency. "We need to get out of here before the whole place comes down on top of us!"

She nods, gritting her teeth against the pain as she struggles to her feet once more. I can see the determination in her eyes, even as her body trembles with exhaustion and fear. I scan the chamber frantically, searching for any other means of escape or defense in this collapsing deathtrap. The heavy mace lies just out of reach, its weight and bulk offering a glimmer of hope against the Guardian's relentless onslaught. But I dare not risk losing my balance to retrieve it now. "Stay low and cover your head!" I yell, pointing frantically at a nearby cluster of runes etched into the stone walls. "Those markings might be our only chance!"

I know we are in a desperate situation, but I refuse to give up without a fight. With a deep breath, I ready myself for whatever comes next, my hand tightening around the hilt of my crossbow. "Merrin, look out!" Varikka's voice cuts through the din just as a chunk of rock falls mere inches from my head, narrowly missing me. I duck instinctively, my heart racing as I realize how close I came to being crushed. The Guardian draws ever nearer, its single eye gleaming in the darkness as it focuses its attention on us. "Varikka, can you reach that mace?" I call out, pointing towards the heavy weapon just out of reach. "We might need something more than our crossbows to stop this thing."

She nods, limping towards the fallen mace with grim determination. I know we are both exhausted, battered, and on the verge of collapse, but I also know that we cannot afford to give up now. The fate of the tower, and possibly even the world, rests in our hands. As Varikka reaches for the mace, I take aim at the Guardian once more, my hands steady despite the fear coursing through my veins. "Stay focused," I mutter under my breath. "We can do this."

The tension in ancient altar chamber deep within the tower's depths tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.
