The ground beneath their feet gave way without warning, and Merrin found herself tumbling forward into darkness once more. She hit the stone floor hard, the impact jarring through her already aching body. Before she could even process what had happened, a familiar voice cried out beside her. "Varikka!" Merrin managed to choke out between labored breaths. The dwarf was sprawled on the ground next to her, clutching at her ankle with a pained expression. "Are you alright?" Merrin asked, her eyes wide with concern as she struggled to sit up.

Varikka let out a pained gasp, wincing as she tried to move her injured leg. "I'll live," she grunted through clenched teeth, "but this ankle isn't going to make running easy." Merrin's gaze darted around the chamber, taking in their surroundings with practiced ease despite her exhaustion. The stone floor was uneven and treacherous, with water pooling in several low spots. In the distance, she could hear the ominous sound of rushing water - they were close to one of the tower's many underground streams.

"Come on," Merrin said, offering Varikka a hand up. "We need to get moving before this whole place comes down around our ears." She helped the dwarf to her feet, wincing in sympathy as Varikka put weight on her injured ankle. It was clear that Varikka wouldn't be able to move quickly or easily with that kind of injury.

"Lean on me," Merrin instructed, wrapping an arm around Varikka's waist to support her weight. "We'll take it slow and careful." As they began to move, Merrin kept a wary eye on their surroundings. The chamber was filled with unstable-looking structures - crumbling pillars, precariously balanced boulders, and sections of floor that looked ready to give way at any moment. They needed to find a safer route out of here fast.

"How's your ankle holding up?" Merrin asked after they'd made it across the first treacherous section of floor. Varikka grimaced but nodded. "It's manageable," she replied, her voice tight with pain. "Just... slow going." They continued picking their way through the chamber, Merrin using every bit of her rogue's training to find the safest path forward. The sound of rushing water grew louder as they approached what looked like a narrow channel cut through the stone.

"Looks like we've found one of the tower's streams," Merrin murmured, eyeing the fast-moving water warily. "Think you can manage a crossing?" Varikka studied the stream with a critical eye, testing her weight on her injured ankle. "I'll have to," she said grimly. "But it won't be easy."
