Phase: escalating

Merrin's eyes widened as she barely managed to parry the creature's attack with the Time-Splitting Sword. The energy from the weapon surged through her body, leaving her feeling both exhilarated and terrified. She knew they couldn't keep fighting like this - the Guardian was simply too powerful.
"Varikka!" Merrin called out, her voice barely audible over the creature's roars. "We need to find another way out of here! The Guardian is too strong for us!"
Varrika nodded grimly, her eyes scanning the chamber for any possible escape routes. She knew they couldn't afford to waste time in this deadly game of cat and mouse with their relentless pursuer.
"Follow me!" Varrika shouted, gesturing for Merrin to follow her as she began to move towards a narrow passage on the opposite side of the room. "We'll try to lose it in these tunnels!"
Merrin hesitated for a moment, her grip on the Time-Splitting Sword tightening as she considered their options. She knew they couldn't afford to waste time in this deadly game of cat and mouse with their relentless pursuer.
"Wait!" Merrin called out, her voice filled with urgency as she spotted something glinting in the dim light near the Guardian's feet. "Look at that!"
Varrika paused mid-step, turning back towards Merrin with a confused expression. She followed the halfling's gaze to where she was pointing and saw what looked like some kind of artifact lying on the ground near the creature's massive form.
"What is it?" Varikka asked, her curiosity piqued despite their dire situation.
"I'm not sure," Merrin replied, her eyes never leaving the object as she slowly approached it. "But I think it might be important..."
As Merrin drew closer to the artifact, the Guardian suddenly let out another deafening roar and lunged towards her once again. The creature's massive form blocked out what little light there was in the chamber, casting them both into darkness for a brief moment before its single eye emerged from the shadows once more.
"Merrin!" Varrika screamed, her heart racing as she watched her friend struggle against the creature's relentless assault. She knew they had to act fast if they wanted any hope of survival in this deadly maze of ancient tunnels...
