The world spins as Merrin catches me, my injured ankle giving out beneath me. I cling to her, my heart pounding in my chest as the ground shifts beneath our feet. "Merrin!" I gasp, wincing as I put weight on my throbbing ankle. "I can't -"
But there's no time to finish my sentence. The sound of crumbling stone fills the air, and I glance up just in time to see a section of the wall giving way. Rocks and debris rain down towards us, and I instinctively raise an arm to shield my face. Merrin curses under her breath, her grip on me tightening as she tries to steady us both. The Guardian's roar echoes through the chamber, its massive form looming over us like a dark specter. I can feel the heat of its breath on my skin, the weight of its gaze boring into my very soul. But even as fear threatens to overwhelm me, I force myself to focus. To push down the pain and the exhaustion and the sheer, overwhelming terror of our situation. Because right now, in this moment, all that matters is surviving. Surviving long enough to find a way out of this godsforsaken place, even if it means facing the wrath of whatever ancient evil lurks in the depths of this tower. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. Merrin helps me to my feet, her eyes scanning the chamber for any sign of an exit. "Stay close," she says, her voice tight with urgency. "We're getting out of here, one way or another."
I nod, my grip on the Time-Splitting Sword tightening. Together, we take a tentative step forward, our bodies pressed close as we navigate the treacherous terrain. The oily substance on the floor clings to our boots like a dark stain, making every step a challenge. But we can't afford to slow down. Not with the Guardian bearing down on us and the chamber crumbling around our ears. We push deeper into the chamber, our hearts pounding in our chests as we race against the clock. The Guardian's roars fade into the distance, but the ominous rumble of collapsing stone follows us like a dark shadow. We're running out of time. And if we don't find a way to survive, this ancient chamber will be our grave. But even as the ground shifts and the walls close in around us, I know one thing for certain: we won't go down without a fight. "Merrin," I say, my voice barely audible over the Guardian's roars. "Stay close. And whatever happens - don't let go of me."
She nods, her hand finding mine in the darkness. Together, we push forward, our hearts pounding in sync as we face the unknown that lies ahead.
I keep my grip tight on Varikka's arm, helping her balance as we move away from the collapsing wall. My heart is pounding in my chest, adrenaline coursing through my veins. "We need to find a way out of here," I say, my voice barely audible over the sound of crumbling stone and the Guardian's ominous roar. I scan the chamber, my eyes darting from one shadowed corner to the next. The oily substance on the floor clings to our boots, making every step a treacherous challenge. But we can't afford to slow down. Not with the Guardian bearing down on us and the chamber crumbling around our ears. "Varikka," I say, my voice urgent. "Can you walk?"
She nods, wincing as she puts weight on her injured ankle. "I can manage," she gasps, her face pale and drawn. Together, we take a tentative step forward, our bodies pressed close as we navigate the treacherous terrain. The ground beneath our feet shifts, and I feel a wave of panic wash over me as I realize what's happening. The chamber is collapsing around us, and if we don't find a way out soon, we'll be buried alive - or worse, at the mercy of the Guardian. But even as the ground shifts and the walls close in around us, I know one thing for certain: we won't go down without a fight.
