The rumbling intensified, stone grinding against stone as another section of wall crumbled away mere feet from where Merrin stood precariously balanced. The massive Guardian creature loomed closer with each passing second, its burning eyes fixed unnervingly on them both. Merrin felt her stomach drop as the floor shifted again, knowing they had to act fast or become monster chow. She glanced sideways at Varikka huddled against the wall, face pale and sweating as she gritted her teeth against the pain in her ankle.

"Varikka," Merrin hissed urgently, "stay still and keep your weight distributed evenly across the floor!" The half-elf woman nodded, though her expression suggested she thought Merrin had lost her mind completely. Her fingers dug into Merrin's shoulder one last time before she reluctantly let go, settling back against the wall with a wince.

Merrin took a deep breath, centering herself as best she could despite the adrenaline screaming through her veins. Then she stepped forward, mace held ready, and faced down the approaching monstrosity. The Guardian's burning gaze fixed on them both, relentlessly advancing despite Merrin's attempt to draw its attention away.

The ground shifted again with a particularly ominous rumble, sending a fresh wave of fear through Merrin. She bit back a curse, knowing they had to act fast or become chow. Her hand closed around the mace hilt, grip firm despite the tremor running through her fingers. "Alright," she said, voice strained over the rumbling stone and the creature's relentless advance, "I'm going to try and draw its attention away from you!" She met Varikka's wide-eyed gaze, offering a reassuring smile even as her stomach twisted with fear. "Stay right there, keep your weight distributed evenly across the floor, and don't move unless absolutely necessary!"

Varikka nodded, understanding the desperate plan despite her obvious reservations. Merrin stepped forward again, mace raised, and faced the Guardian directly. The creature's burning eyes fixed on her now, relentless advance continuing as it ignored Varikka huddled against the wall.

The ground shifted ominously once more, stone grinding together mere feet away from where Varikka clung to stability. She gritted her teeth against the pain in her ankle and the terror of being trapped between crumbling walls and a ravenous beast. "Merrin..." Her strained voice barely carried over the rumbling stone and the creature's relentless advance.

Merrin knew they were out of time, desperate measures required. She charged forward with a cry, mace swinging in a desperate arc toward the Guardian's burning eyes. The creature roared, massive form pivoting to face this new threat even as its flaming gaze remained fixed on Merrin.

Varikka watched in horror as her friend engaged the monstrosity directly, knowing any mistake would mean death for them both. She forced herself to remain still against the wall despite the shifting floor and crumbling stone around her, clinging to the precarious stability that might yet save them all.

The Guardian's attention remained locked on Merrin as she danced around its flaming gaze, buying precious seconds with desperate swings and feints. The creature roared again, massive claws swiping through empty air where Merrin had stood moments before.

Varikka held her breath, fingers digging into the stone beside her head as the battle raged mere feet away. Each passing second felt like an eternity, the outcome hanging in the balance between Merrin's desperate courage and the beast's relentless hunger.

The ground shifted again with a grinding rumble that seemed to shake the very foundations of the chamber. Chunks of ceiling broke free, tumbling past them into the abyss below as more walls crumbled away on either side. Varikka pressed herself back against the remaining stable section, heart pounding in her chest as she watched Merrin fight for their lives.

The Guardian's flaming gaze began to dim, its movements slowing as if exhausted by the relentless struggle. Merrin pressed her advantage, mace striking home with a resounding crack that echoed through the crumbling chamber.

With a final, earth-shaking rumble, the creature collapsed forward into dust and shadow, leaving behind only smoking stones where it had stood. Merrin staggered back, panting heavily as she watched the remains dissipate into the darkness below.

Varikka let out a shaky breath, sliding down the wall to sit on the floor with trembling legs. "Merrin," she called out, voice hoarse with relief and lingering fear. "You... you actually did it."
