As we push forward into the left passage, the air grows thick with dust and debris. Varikka's limp grows more pronounced with each step, her ankle throbbing in agony. I catch her by the arm, helping her navigate the treacherous terrain. Suddenly, a chunk of stone crashes down from the ceiling, mere inches from our heads. The Guardian is closing in fast, its roar growing deafening. Varikka's eyes lock onto mine, her gaze filled with a mixture of pain and determination. "I... I think I can make it," she grits out through clenched teeth. "But we need to keep moving!" I nod, my grip on the key tightening as we press on. The passage narrows further, forcing us to move in a tight, winding pattern. We're running out of time – the Guardian's hot breath is on our heels, and the passageway begins to shake and tremble. As we round a corner, a faint glimmer of light appears in the distance. It's a small opening, barely large enough for us to squeeze through. The Guardian's roar grows louder, and I know we have to make a decision fast – do we risk squeezing through the narrow opening and hope it leads to safety, or do we try to find another way out?

I catch Varikka's arm, steadying her as she limps alongside me through the crumbling passage. The Guardian's roar shakes the very stones around us, growing louder by the second. We're running out of options, and fast. Up ahead, a narrow opening beckons, just barely large enough for us to squeeze through. But with Varikka's injured ankle, I'm not sure even she could manage it. "Varikka," I say urgently, "I think that passage might be our only way out. Can you make it?"

She meets my gaze, her eyes filled with pain but also a flicker of determination. "I... I'll try," she grits out through clenched teeth. "But Merrin, if I get stuck, you have to keep going without me. Don't let that beast catch us both."

My stomach twists at the thought of leaving her behind, but she's right. We can't both end up as the Guardian's prey. "I understand," I say solemnly, giving her arm a squeeze. "But don't you dare give up on me, got it? We're getting out of this together."

Just then, another chunk of stone crashes down from the ceiling, nearly taking my head off. The Guardian's roar is deafening now, its hot breath steaming in the confined space. "Go!" I shout, shoving Varikka towards the opening. "I'll hold it off as long as I can!"

As she struggles to maneuver her bulk through the narrow passage, I turn to face the oncoming beast. The key pulses against my palm, its energy surging through me like liquid fire. I have no idea what it can do, but right now, it's our only hope. The Guardian looms before me, its cold gaze fixed on mine. I feel the weight of its presence pressing down on me like a physical force, threatening to crush the very air from my lungs. But even as fear threatens to overwhelm me, I feel a strange calm settle over me. The key's power flows through me, filling me with an almost primal certainty. I am not prey. I am the one holding the key to this tower's secrets. And I will not let some mindless beast take that from me. Gripping the key tightly in my fist, I step forward to meet the Guardian's charge head-on, praying to whatever gods might be listening that my courage - and the power of this ancient relic - will be enough to see us through to the other side.
