Round 908 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we make our way through the narrow passageway, the air grows thick with dust and debris. We can hear the Guardian's massive form closing in behind us, its roar growing louder with each step. Suddenly, Varikka stumbles, her injured ankle twisting beneath her. I catch her by the arm, helping her limp along as we press on. The passageway narrows further, forcing us to move in a tight, winding pattern. The Guardian is mere moments behind, its hot breath on our heels. I can feel its gaze on me, a cold, unblinking stare that makes my skin crawl. We're running out of time - the passageway begins to shake and tremble, and I know we need to find a way out before it collapses completely. Do we keep moving forward, or do we try to find a side passage to escape through?
The passageway walls tremble as the Guardian's roar grows deafening behind us. Varikka limps beside me, her face etched with pain and determination. We're running out of options. "We need to keep moving!" I shout, my voice barely audible over the rumbling stone. "Can't let up now!"
The key pulses against my palm, its energy growing stronger as we delve deeper into the tower's heart. I can't shake the feeling that it's guiding us somehow, urging us onward towards some unknown fate. I risk a glance back and immediately regret it. The Guardian's cold gaze fixes on me, making my stomach churn with primal fear. Its massive form fills the passage, hot breath steaming in the confined space. "Merrin! Look out!" Varikka cries, shoving me aside as a chunk of stone falls from the crumbling ceiling. I stumble, catch myself, and press on, adrenaline surging through my veins. The passageway splits ahead - two shadowed tunnels branching off into darkness. I hesitate, mind racing. We could keep bearing left, where the way ahead looks slightly less unstable... or risk the right passage and pray it leads somewhere safer. "Varikka! Can you make it if we press on straight?" I call over my shoulder. She limps to my side, wincing as she puts weight on her injured ankle. "I... I'll manage," she grits out through clenched teeth. "Just don't leave me behind."
I meet her eyes, seeing the pain and fear swirling there. We're in this together now, for better or worse. And with the Guardian bearing down on us, we have no choice but to keep moving forward into the unknown depths of the tower. I take a deep breath, steeling myself. "Alright then. Left it is. Stay close and watch your step!"
Keeping my grip tight on the key, I push ahead into the darkness, praying to whatever gods might be listening that we're not about to make things worse. But what other option do we have? We're out of time... and running out of luck. The only way is forward now - into the heart of the labyrinth, where danger lurks around every corner and the key's power pulses like a second heartbeat against my skin. I can only hope that whatever lies ahead, it's worth the price we're paying to get there. With a final glance back at Varikka, I plunge ahead into the unknown...
Varrika: Merrin, I... I can barely walk on this ankle. The pain is unbearable. But you're right - we have to keep going. That beast is right on our heels.
