Round 889 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Elric peered down at Varika, he winced as a faint crack echoed through the cavern. The stone slab that dislodged earlier had partially collapsed, sending rubble tumbling down the pit trap. With a swift motion, Elric carefully reached out and grabbed Varika's arm, pulling her up the jagged rocks with a Herculean effort. As they ascended, the ground gave way beneath Varika's feet once more, and she tumbled down into a hidden pit trap, landing hard on her back at the bottom. Elric's eyes widened in alarm as he realized that this time, he was too far away to catch her. New detail: The sound of rushing water grew louder, and the air filled with the scent of damp earth and mold as the river continued its relentless march towards them. Immediate pressure: With Varika trapped below, Elric had to act quickly to rescue her before the river claimed her. He looked around frantically for a handhold or a foothold, but the jagged rocks seemed to stretch on forever, and the water's edge was mere feet away.
Merrin's lungs screamed for air as she fought against the river's unrelenting current. Her muscles burned from the effort of staying afloat, but she refused to give in. Varikka and Elric were still out there, counting on her. She wouldn't let them down. As Merrin struggled, a faint glow caught her eye through the turbulent water. A strange orb pulsed just beneath the surface, casting an eerie light. She blinked, trying to focus through the murky depths. Was it some kind of creature? Or just a trick of the mind in this nightmare? Suddenly, a searing pain lanced through her side. Merrin gasped, bubbles bursting from her lips as something slammed into her from below. Panic surged through her veins. The creature was attacking! She tried to swim away, but the current was too strong. The water dragged her deeper and deeper, growing colder by the second. Shadows danced at the edges of her vision as the orb's light faded. Merrin's strength waned with each passing moment. But still she fought on, driven by the need to survive, to find a way back to her friends. Her fingers closed around something hard and jagged. A rock from the riverbed. She tightened her grip, feeling a surge of determination. If that creature thought it could take her down without a fight, it had another thing coming. Merrin's mind raced as she plotted her next move. She had to get to the surface, to find some kind of solid ground or handhold to pull herself out of this watery grave. But the current was too strong, and she was growing weaker by the second. She took a deep breath and dove down, swimming with all her might towards the orb's faint light. It was a risk - that could be the creature's lair or trap waiting for her. But it was also her best chance at survival. She had to trust her instincts, her rogue's cunning. As Merrin swam, she sent up a silent prayer to whatever gods might be listening. Please let Varikka and Elric be alright. Please give her the strength to make it through this. And please, if there was any justice in this world, let that creature get what was coming to it. The halfling rogue kicked harder, determined to make her way back to the surface...and to whatever fate awaited her there in the treacherous depths of this underground river.
