Round 872 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we round another corner, the passageway opens up into a large underground chamber, the ceiling lost in darkness. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and Varikka's injured ankle throbs in agony as she struggles to keep her footing on the slick stone floor. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath us, and we find ourselves hurtling down a fast-moving underground river, the water churning around us like a deadly whirlpool. "The current's too strong!" I exclaim, grabbing Varikka's arm as we're swept away by the rushing water. "We need to find a way to shore up against it, or risk being pulled under!"
Varikka's face sets in a grim determination, her eyes fixed on the shore ahead. "I can make it," she says, wincing as she tries to put weight on her injured ankle. "But I'll need your help to steady me."
Elric brings up the rear, his torch casting eerie shadows on the walls around us. The Guardian's roar grows louder still, ominous glow on rushing water below, and we know we're running out of time.
I grit my teeth as the icy water swirls around my legs, my ankle throbbing in agony. The current is too strong, sweeping us along like twigs in a flood. "Merrin!" I call out, my voice barely audible over the roar of the underground river. "We need to get to shore before we're pulled under!"
I struggle to keep my footing on the slick stones, my hands scrabbling for purchase on the uneven surface. Elric's torch flickers in the distance, his face a mask of grim determination as he fights to keep his balance. The Guardian's roar echoes through the chamber, and I can see the ominous glow of its eyes in the darkness ahead. "Varikka!" Merrin's voice cuts through the chaos, her hand outstretched to steady me. "Grab on!"
I reach for her with a nod, my injured ankle screaming as I put weight on it. Together, we fight our way towards the shore, the water churning around us like a deadly whirlpool. The ground gives way beneath our feet, and I can feel the panic rising in my chest as we're swept along by the relentless current. But Merrin's grip is firm, her eyes locked on mine as she pulls me forward with all her strength. "We're going to make it," she says, her voice low and urgent. "Just keep fighting."
I nod, my teeth bared in a snarl of pain and determination. We're in this together, for better or worse. And gods help us if we don't find a way out of this alive.
I gasp as the icy water swirls around my legs, the current sweeping us along like twigs in a flood. Varikka, grab on! I cry out, my voice barely audible over the roar of the underground river. We need to get to shore before we're pulled under!
But we have no choice but to press on. I reach out to steady Varikka with one hand, my other arm locked around her waist as I pull her towards the shore. The water churns around us like a deadly whirlpool, threatening to sweep us away at any moment. But we fight our way forward, step by agonizing step, our hearts pounding in our chests as we claw our way towards solid ground.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, we collapse onto the shore, gasping for air and shivering from the cold. Elric stumbles up behind us, his torch sputtering and smoking as he falls to his knees beside us.
