Round 862 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we plummet into the churning waters, a massive stone slab crashes down behind us, sending a shower of dust and debris down upon the party. The force of the impact drives the breath from my lungs, and I cling desperately to Varikka as we struggle to stay afloat. My heart races as I feel her splinted ankle catching on the rocks and debris littering the bottom of the pool. Elric's torchlight bobs ahead of us, casting eerie shadows on the walls of the tunnel. Suddenly, a massive wave crashes down upon us, threatening to drag us under. I strain against the current, my muscles screaming in protest as I fight to keep Varikka's head above the surface. The water rushes past our legs, icy cold and unforgiving. We're running out of time - and if we can't find a way out of this water soon, it may be too late for us all. A faint glow appears in the distance, illuminated by Elric's torchlight, as we hurtle toward the pool's surface. It's a small opening, barely large enough for us to squeeze through. But it's our only hope. Do we risk squeezing through the narrow opening, or try to swim against the current to find another way out?
I struggle against the relentless current, my arms aching as I fight to keep Varikka's head above the surface. The water rushes past our legs, icy cold and unforgiving. I can feel her splinted ankle catching on the rocks and debris littering the bottom of the pool, threatening to drag us both under.
Elric's torchlight bobs ahead of us, casting eerie shadows on the walls of the tunnel. But all I can focus on is the narrow opening in the distance, illuminated by his flickering flame. It's our only hope of escape from this churning watery grave.
"Varikka!" I shout over the roar of the cascade, my voice hoarse with exertion. "I see an opening ahead! We need to make for it, now!"
My legs pump beneath the surface, straining to propel us toward that tantalizing gap in the stone. But the current is strong, and Varikka's weight drags us back with every stroke. I know we're running out of time - if we can't reach that opening soon, we'll be swept away for good.
With a final burst of strength, I lunge forward, my fingers scrabbling at the rough stone as I try to pull Varikka through the narrow gap. Her splinted ankle catches on the edge, and I feel a moment of terror as she's wrenched from my grasp. But with a grunt of effort, I wrench her free, and we tumble into the darkness beyond, gasping for breath.
For a moment, all is still, save for the distant roar of the water behind us. Then Elric's voice cuts through the gloom: "Quick thinking, lass! But we're not out of this yet. We need to find a way out of this tunnel before that thing catches up!"
I nod grimly, my heart still pounding in my chest. I know he's right - the Guardian is still out there, its enraged bellows echoing through the stone. And who knows what other dangers lie ahead in the depths of this accursed tower? But for now, we're safe from the watery pit. And that, at least, is something.
