Round 838 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin throws the rope down, Varikka wraps it around her injured arm, her eyes locked on mine with a mix of desperation and determination. I throw her the other end, and she pulls herself up, her face contorted in pain as she struggles to keep her weight off the ankle. With Elric's torchlight illuminating our precarious perch, I peer down into the pit trap, my heart racing at the sight of rushing water lapping against the stone walls. The Guardian's pursuit seems to have paused, but only momentarily - I can hear the sound of crumbling stone echoing through the tunnel, growing louder by the second. Varikka's grip on the rope tightens, and she gives me a pleading look. "Merrin, we need to move!"
I grip the rope tightly, my muscles burning from the strain of keeping us both afloat. Varikka's weight pulls at my arms, threatening to drag me into the churning water below. "Varikka, you've got to climb!" I shout, my voice echoing off the damp stone walls. "I can't hold us both!"
Elric's torchlight flickers overhead, casting eerie shadows on the pit trap walls. I can see the desperation in Varikka's eyes as she struggles to keep her weight off her injured ankle. The water rises around us, cold and unforgiving, threatening to pull us under at any moment. With a grunt of effort, I heave myself up, hand over hand, using the rope to lift Varikka with me. She cries out in pain as her bad ankle scrapes against the pit trap's rough edges, but we have no choice. We have to move, and fast. As we clamber out of the pit trap, Elric reaches down to help pull us up the rest of the way. I collapse onto solid ground, panting heavily, my arms aching from the exertion. Varikka lies beside me, her face pale and drawn, her ankle clearly swollen beneath her tattered pants. I force myself to my feet, swaying slightly as a wave of dizziness washes over me. The headache from the noxious gas exposure pounds at my temples, threatening to overwhelm me. But there's no time to rest. We have to keep moving. "Varikka, can you walk?" I ask, my voice hoarse and strained. "We need to find a way out of these tunnels before they collapse completely."
Varikka struggles to her feet, wincing in pain as she puts weight on her injured ankle. I slip an arm around her waist to support her, feeling the heat of her body through her damp clothes. Together, we stumble forward into the darkness, following the flickering light of Elric's torch. The tunnel winds deeper into the earth, the air growing thick and heavy with the weight of the stone above us. Water pools beneath our feet, making the ground slick and treacherous. But we have no choice but to keep moving, to find a way out before it's too late. As we press onward, I can't shake the feeling that something is following us through the tunnels, something ancient and malevolent. The Guardian, perhaps, or some other horror lurking in the depths. But for now, all that matters is survival. We have to keep moving, keep pushing forward, no matter what dangers lie ahead. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges the tower has in store. With Varikka's weight leaning heavily against me and Elric's torch lighting our way, we press on into the unknown, our hearts racing and our breaths coming fast and hard. "Elric, keep that torch high and steady," I call out, my voice echoing off the damp stone walls. "We've got no idea what's down here, so keep your eyes peeled for anything that looks like trouble."
