Merrin's body tumbles through the water, pulling Varikka with her. The rope around her waist is stretched to its limit, but it holds firm for a moment longer before succumbing to the force of the current. Varikka's limp form is dragged downstream, her head bobbing up and down as she struggles to stay afloat. Merrin follows close behind, her own movements slow and labored due to her injured ankle.

I cry out in anguish as Varikka's limp body is swept away by the relentless current. The rope tied around my waist strains against its bonds, but ultimately snaps under the immense pressure. I thrash about frantically, trying to swim against the tide and reach her, but it's no use. My ankle throbs with pain as I struggle to maintain my footing, the icy water lapping at my chin. The hidden passage looms before me, a tantalizing promise of escape, but it's too late. Varikka is gone, pulled under by the merciless flood. Tears sting my eyes as I watch helplessly, my heart heavy with grief and regret. We were supposed to be in this together, fighting our way out of this accursed place side by side. But now, with Varikka lost to the depths, I feel more alone than ever. The water continues to rise, and I know that I have only moments left before I too am swept away. With a heavy heart, I turn my attention back to the hidden passage. It's our last chance at survival, our only hope of escaping this watery tomb. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the struggle ahead. The opening is narrow, barely wide enough for a halfling to squeeze through, but I have no choice. With a final glance back at where Varikka disappeared beneath the surface, I dive forward, my arms outstretched and my legs thrashing wildly as I fight against the current. The water closes over my head, icy and unforgiving. I kick my legs with all my might, propelling myself towards the hidden passage. My lungs burn with the need for air, but I push on, determined to reach safety. As I near the opening, I can feel the pull of the current growing stronger, threatening to sweep me away at any moment. With a final burst of effort, I throw myself forward, my body stretching and straining as I try to fit through the narrow gap. For a moment, I fear that I'm stuck, that my shoulders are too broad to squeeze through. But with a desperate push, I feel myself slipping through the opening, the water rushing past me on either side. I emerge on the other side, gasping for air and coughing up water. The hidden chamber is small and cramped, the walls slick with moisture and the floor covered in a thick layer of muck. But it's safe, at least for now. I collapse to my knees, my chest heaving as I try to catch my breath. In the distance, I can hear the sound of the rising water, the relentless roar of the flood that claimed Varikka's life. And somewhere, in the depths of my heart, I know that I will never forget this place, or the friend I lost within its walls.
