The water continues to rise, lapping at Merrin's waist as she searches for any sign of Varikka. She spots her comrade's head bobbing in the distance, just beyond the reach of the rope tied around her waist. With a surge of adrenaline, Merrin wades forward, her injured ankle throbbing with every step. The current grows stronger, threatening to sweep her off balance, but she manages to keep her footing. As she reaches for Varikka, the rope tugs tight, and she feels a jolt of pain in her ankle. With a Herculean effort, she pulls Varikka back towards the hidden passage, but not before the water sweeps away the last of Merrin's crossbow bolts, rendering them useless in their desperate bid for escape.

"Varikka!" I scream, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. The water is up to my chest now, and the current grows stronger by the second. But all thoughts of escape fade from my mind as I spot Varikka's head bobbing in the distance, just beyond the reach of the rope tied around my waist. With a surge of adrenaline, I wade forward, my injured ankle throbbing with every step. The current threatens to sweep me off balance, but I manage to keep my footing, my hands clawing at the rough stone for purchase. As I reach for Varikka, the rope tugs tight, and I feel a jolt of pain shoot up my leg. But I don't let it stop me. With a Herculean effort, I pull Varikka back towards the hidden passage, fighting against the relentless pull of the water. But it's not enough. Even as I drag Varikka's limp form through the rising flood, I can feel the crossbow bolts slipping from my grasp, swept away by the churning water. We're trapped, with no weapons and no way out. I look down at Varikka's pale face, her eyes closed and her chest barely rising and falling with each breath. My heart constricts in my chest as I realize the gravity of our situation. We've lost everything - our weapons, our supplies, even our means of escape. And now, with Varikka injured and exhausted, I don't know if we'll make it out of this alive. But I can't afford to give up. Not yet. With a deep breath, I turn my attention back to the hidden passage, searching for any sign of an opening or a way through. The water laps at my chin now, and I know we have only moments left before we're both swept away by the current. "Varikka," I say, my voice hoarse with exhaustion and fear. "Can you hear me? We need to keep moving." I shake her shoulder gently, trying to rouse her from her stupor. "Come on, Varikka. Wake up. We have to find a way out of here."

But even as I speak the words, I know it's a futile effort. The water is rising too fast, and we're too weak to fight it much longer. With a heavy heart, I turn back to the passage, my last hope for escape. "Please," I whisper, my voice barely audible over the rushing water. "Let there be a way out." And with that, I take a deep breath and dive beneath the surface, pulling Varikka's limp form with me as I search for any sign of a hidden entrance or a way to safety.
