Round 784 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Guardian's sword slices through the air, narrowly missing the creature's glowing orbs. The creature's claws swipe at the Guardian's face, but it ducks just in time, avoiding the blow. The Guardian retaliates, striking the creature with a powerful blow that sends it stumbling back against the wall. The creature's eyes flash with anger, and it charges forward once more. As the Guardian prepares to defend itself, Varikka's injured ankle gives out beneath her, sending her tumbling to the ground. The creature takes advantage of the distraction, lunging at the Guardian with renewed ferocity.
"Varikka!" I cry out, my heart leaping into my throat as she falls to the ground. The Guardian's eyes flash towards her, its sword still locked with the creature's claws, but it can't reach her in time.
I drop my crossbow, the weapon clattering to the ground as I lunge towards Varikka, my arms outstretched. "Get up!" I shout, my voice raw with fear and urgency. "We have to move!"
Varikka's eyes are wide with pain as she struggles to her feet, her injured ankle throbbing beneath her. "I can't," she gasps, tears of frustration welling in her eyes. "It won't hold me."
I grab her arm, hauling her to her feet and slinging her arm over my shoulder. "Yes you can," I growl, my voice hard with determination. "We're getting out of here, one way or another."
With a heave, I pull Varikka towards the far end of the tunnel, away from the battle raging behind us. The creature's howls echo off the walls, mixing with the clash of steel and the Guardian's fierce cries. Dust rains down from the ceiling, coating our hair and clothes in a fine layer of grit.
I can feel Varikka's weight pressing down on me, her injured ankle dragging against the ground as we stagger through the darkness. "Don't stop," I pant, my lungs burning with exertion. "Keep moving."
But even as I speak the words, I know it's a futile effort. The tunnel ahead is blocked by a pile of rubble, the path ahead sealed off by the collapse. We're trapped, with no way out and no sign of rescue.
I slow to a halt, my chest heaving as I try to catch my breath. "Varikka," I say, my voice soft but urgent. "We need to find another way out. Can you stand on your own?"
Varikka nods, her face pale and drawn in the dim light of our flickering torch. "I think so," she whispers, easing her weight off my shoulder and taking a tentative step forward. Her ankle wobbles beneath her, but she manages to stay upright.
I nod, my mind racing as I try to formulate a plan. "Alright then," I say, my voice grim with determination. "Let's see if we can find another way out of this gods-forsaken place."
"Merrin, we can't go back!" I gasp, my heart pounding in my chest as I struggle to keep my balance on my injured ankle. The battle rages behind us, the clash of steel and the creature's eerie howls echoing off the tunnel walls.
I glance down at my crossbow, lying discarded on the ground a few feet away. "We need to find another way out," I pant, my voice strained with pain and exertion. "There has to be another passage, another route through this gods-forsaken place."
I limp forward, my hand pressed against the rough stone wall as I search for any sign of a hidden door or secret passage. "Keep your eyes open," I hiss at Merrin, my gaze darting from side to side as I scan the darkness for any hint of movement. "We don't know what else might be lurking in these tunnels."
But even as I speak the words, I know it's a slim hope. The air is thick with dust and debris, making it hard to breathe or see more than a few feet ahead. And with my ankle throbbing in pain and Merrin's crossbow lying useless on the ground, we're badly equipped for a long trek through unknown territory.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever comes next. "Alright then," I say, my voice tight with determination. "Let's see if we can find another way out of this place. But be ready for anything, Merrin. We're not in the clear yet."
And with that, I limp forward into the darkness, my hand pressed against the wall and my eyes straining to pierce the shadows ahead.
