Round 782 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's voice echoes through the darkness, her words laced with a mix of determination and desperation. "We need to move, now! We can't stay here!" She grips Varikka's arm tightly as they inch forward, the sound of the structural collapse growing louder by the second. The ground beneath them gives way with a loud crack, and the tunnel entrance is now completely blocked. As they push forward, their makeshift torch flickers, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The air is thick with dust and debris, and the smell of mold and decay hangs heavy. Varikka's injured ankle throbs in pain, but she grits her teeth and keeps moving, her eyes fixed on Merrin's determined face. Suddenly, a loud creaking noise echoes through the tunnel, making them both jump. The sound is followed by the faint rustling of fabric, and then a figure emerges from the darkness, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
"By the gods," I whisper, my eyes growing wide with horror as the figure emerges from the shadows. Varikka's grip on my arm tightens, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps.
I reach for my crossbow, my hands trembling as I fumble with the unfamiliar weapon. "Stay back!" I warn, my voice shaking with fear and adrenaline. "We don't want any trouble."
But even as the words leave my mouth, I know it's too late. The figure's eyes gleam in the darkness, its movements unnatural and jerky. "Varikka," I hiss, my voice low and urgent. "Get behind me. Now."
Varikka nods, shifting her weight onto her uninjured leg as she limps to my side. "What is that thing?" she whispers, her face pale with fear.
I shake my head, my eyes never leaving the figure's glowing orbs. "I don't know," I admit, my voice tight with tension. "But it's not human, that's for sure."
And as the figure takes another step towards us, its movements growing more fluid and purposeful, I know we're in serious trouble. We're trapped, injured, and facing an unknown threat in the depths of this accursed tower.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever comes next. "Varikka," I say, my voice steady and determined. "If anything happens to me, you keep going. Don't stop for anything, understand?"
Varikka's eyes meet mine, her expression grim but resolute. "Understood," she says, her voice soft but filled with resolve. "But don't get any ideas about leaving me behind. We're in this together, Merrin. To the end."
And as the figure lunges forward, its claws extended and its mouth open in a silent snarl, I know we have no choice but to fight for our lives. With a cry of defiance, I raise my crossbow and fire, the bolt streaking through the darkness towards our unseen enemy.
