As Merrin and Varikka navigate the narrow tunnel, the sound of the structural collapse grows louder, and the ground trembles beneath their feet. Suddenly, a faint rumbling noise echoes from up ahead, followed by the unmistakable crack of stone giving way. Merrin's eyes widen in alarm as she grabs Varikka's arm, pulling her closer to the tunnel wall. "It's coming from up ahead!" she whispers urgently. "We need to find cover, now!"

Varikka grits her teeth, wincing in pain as she limps forward. The tunnel twists and turns, but Merrin's grip on her arm keeps her upright. The rumbling grows louder still, and the air is filled with the acrid scent of dust and decay. A nearby alcove comes into view, partially hidden by a tattered tapestry. "In here!" Merrin yells, pushing Varikka toward the opening. "We'll be safe for now, but we can't stay here forever. We need to keep moving."

Merrin · Rogue

"This is bad," I mutter under my breath, my heart pounding in my chest as the sound of crumbling stone grows louder still. "We need to find another way out of here before this whole place comes down on top of us."

I glance around the alcove, my eyes scanning for any signs of a potential exit. But there's nothing - just the tattered remnants of an old tapestry, fluttering in the stale air.

"Damn it," I hiss, frustration building in my voice.* "We can't just sit here and wait to be buried alive. We need to keep moving."

But even as I say the words, I know they're empty. With Varikka's injured ankle and the unstable ground beneath our feet, moving any further could be suicide.

I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. "Alright," I say, my voice strained but steady. "We'll stay here for now - at least until the worst of the collapse passes. But as soon as it's safe, we need to find another way out of this damn tunnel."

I turn to Varikka, concern etched on my face. "How's your ankle holding up?" I ask, my voice soft with worry. "Think you can make it if we have to run?"

Varikka grits her teeth, testing her weight on her injured leg with a wince. "I'll manage," she says, her voice tight but determined. "Just don't expect me to be leading any charge anytime soon."

I nod, a faint smile tugging at the corners of my mouth despite the dire situation we're in. "I wouldn't dream of it," I reply, my tone light but still filled with concern. "You just focus on staying upright. I'll handle the rest."

And so we wait, huddled together in the relative safety of the alcove as the sound of crumbling stone echoes through the tunnel around us. The air is thick with dust and the stench of decay, but at least here we're sheltered from the worst of the falling debris.

"It's going to be okay," I whisper to Varikka, more for my own benefit than hers.* "We'll find a way out of this. We always do."

And as the rumbling slowly fades into the distance, I allow myself a small measure of hope. Perhaps, just perhaps, there's still a chance we might make it out of this accursed tower alive after all.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

"I'm not going to be much use in a fight with this ankle," Varikka mutters, frustration evident in her voice as she shifts her weight on the injured limb. "But I'll manage. We've faced worse than this before."

She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever challenges lay ahead. "What's our next move, Merrin? Do we keep moving through the tunnel, or try to find another way out of this damn place?"
