Round 777 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin reaches the bottom of the pit, she quickly assesses their situation. Varikka's ankle is indeed trapped beneath a pile of rubble, and they both know they need to move carefully to avoid further injury. The air is thick with the stench of decay, and the sound of scurrying rodents echoes through the chamber. Suddenly, I hear a faint rumbling noise coming from deeper within the pit. It's hard to tell what it is, but it's getting louder by the second. Merrin's eyes widen in concern as she turns to Varikka. "It's the structural collapse," she whispers. "We have to move now if we want to get out of here alive."
Varikka grits her teeth, trying to ignore the pain in her ankle. "I'm not going anywhere until you help me get out of this mess," she says, her voice firm despite the fear in her eyes. The rumbling noise is getting closer, and I can feel the ground shaking beneath our feet. We need to act fast if we want to escape this pit trap alive.
"Damn it all to the Abyss," I mutter under my breath, my heart pounding in my chest as the rumbling grows louder and closer. Varikka's trapped ankle and our precarious position in this pit trap are bad enough, but the looming threat of a full structural collapse is enough to make even my hardened nerves jangle.
I crouch down next to Varikka, my hands already working to clear away the rubble pinning her ankle. The stones are heavy and unstable, shifting dangerously as I try to lift them free. But I don't have time to be careful - not with the ground literally crumbling beneath our feet.
"This is going to hurt," I warn Varikka through gritted teeth, my hands gripping a particularly large stone. "Brace yourself."
With a grunt of effort, I heave the stone aside, feeling it scrape against my palms as I toss it away. Varikka cries out in pain, but I can see her ankle is now free - at least for the moment.
"Can you move?" I ask urgently, already reaching for another stone.* "We need to get out of here before this whole place comes down on top of us."
Varikka nods grimly, testing her weight on her injured ankle with a wince. "I can walk," she says, her voice tight with pain. "But not fast. And definitely not up that pit trap."
I nod, my mind already racing as I try to think of an alternative escape route. "Then we'll have to find another way out," I say firmly. "There has to be another exit from this chamber - we just need to find it before the whole place collapses."
With a final heave, I clear the last of the rubble from Varikka's ankle, dusting off my hands as I take stock of our surroundings. The chamber is dimly lit, with a faint, pulsing glow emanating from somewhere deeper in the pit. But more importantly, there seems to be a narrow tunnel leading off to the side - just large enough for us to squeeze through, if we're careful.
"There," I say, pointing to the tunnel.* "That's our way out. Come on - we need to move now, before the entire place comes down around our ears."
And with that, I help Varikka to her feet, bracing myself against her weight as we start to make our way towards the tunnel. The rumbling is growing louder now, the ground shaking beneath our feet with every step. But even as fear threatens to overwhelm me, I know we can't give up. Not yet, not ever. We're fighters, and we've faced worse than this before. And with Varikka by my side, there's always a chance - however slim - that we might make it out of this alive.
I help Varikka into the tunnel, my heart pounding in my chest as I listen to the rumbling of the collapsing chamber behind us. The air is thick with dust and the stench of decay, but at least we're safe from the immediate danger of the falling debris.
"Keep moving," I urge Varikka, my voice strained with tension.* "We need to put some distance between us and that pit trap before we stop to rest."
Varikka nods grimly, limping alongside me as we make our way deeper into the tunnel. The walls are narrow and damp, the air heavy with the scent of mold and mildew. But at least here we're sheltered from the worst of the collapse - for now.
"I hate to say it," Varikka mutters through gritted teeth,* "but this might be the safest place for us right now. At least until we can find another way out."
I nod, my mind already racing as I try to come up with a plan. "We need to keep moving," I say firmly. "This tunnel could lead us back to safety - or it could be leading us deeper into the heart of this accursed tower. But we can't stay here and wait for the walls to come down around us."
And so we press on, Varikka limping alongside me as we make our way through the darkness. The tunnel twists and turns, winding its way deeper into the bowels of the ancient structure. But even as fear and uncertainty threaten to overwhelm us, I know we can't give up. Not yet, not ever. We're fighters, and we've faced worse than this before. And with Varikka by my side, there's always a chance - however slim - that we might make it out of this alive.
