Merrin's voice echoes from above, her words indistinct but urgent. The air is thick with the stench of decay, and the sound of scurrying rodents echoes through the chamber. The Time-Splitting Sword lies tantalizingly close, its pulsing light now lost to the darkness. Varikka's injured ankle throbs with every subtle shift in the floor, threatening to send her tumbling at any moment.

"Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. The pit trap has closed around us, sealing us in this dark, dank chamber. My heart races as I imagine Varikka trapped somewhere beneath me, injured and alone. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I know must come next. We can't leave Varikka down there to die - no matter how much danger we might be in ourselves. I have to find a way to reach her, and fast.

"Varikka, can you hear me?" I call out, my voice echoing off the stone walls.* "I'm going to try to climb down to you. Hold on!"

With a deep breath, I start to make my way down into the pit, my hands scrabbling for purchase on the rough stone walls. The air is thick with the stench of decay, and I can hear the scurrying of unseen creatures in the darkness all around us.

But even as fear threatens to overwhelm me, I know we can't give up. Not yet, not ever. Varikka is still alive and fighting to survive. And as long as she's still breathing, there's a chance - however slim - that we might make it out of this alive.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever lies ahead. Then, with a final glance at the Time-Splitting Sword lying tantalizingly close above us, I turn and start to make my way deeper into the darkness, my heart pounding in my chest as I pray to whatever gods might be listening that we'll find our way to safety before it's too late.

I take a step forward, my hands scrabbling for purchase on the rough stone walls. The air is thick with the stench of decay, and I can hear the scurrying of unseen creatures in the darkness all around us.

"Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls.* "Can you hear me? Are you alright?"

There's a moment of silence, and then I hear her reply, muffled but unmistakable. "I'm here, Merrin. I...I can't move my ankle. It's trapped beneath some rubble."

My heart sinks at the news, but I try to keep my voice steady. "Alright, just hold on. I'm coming down to you."

I take another step, and then another, feeling my way along the walls as I descend into the darkness. The pit seems to go on forever, the walls rough and jagged beneath my fingers.

But finally, after what feels like an eternity, I reach the bottom. And there, in the darkness, I see Varikka - her form huddled against the far wall, her ankle caught beneath a pile of rubble.

"Varikka!" I cry out, rushing to her side.* "Are you alright?"

She looks up at me, her face etched with pain and relief. "Merrin...you made it. But we're trapped down here now. The pit trap closed above us."

I nod, my mind already racing as I try to come up with a plan. "We'll find a way out," I say, my voice filled with grim determination. "Together. We always do."
