As I take a step forward, my injured ankle gives way beneath me. The ground shifts violently beneath my feet, sending me tumbling into the pit trap. I feel a wave of panic wash over me as I realize I'm hurtling towards the dark depths below. The Time-Splitting Sword lies just out of reach, its pulsing light fading into darkness. Merrin rushes to my side, her face etched with concern. "Varikka, no!" she cries out, but it's too late. The pit trap closes above us, and I feel the ground give way beneath me. The air is filled with the acrid smell of decay, and the sound of scurrying rodents echoes from the depths below. As we sink into the darkness, I realize that we're running out of time. The structural collapse in the new area is imminent, and The Guardian's pursuit of us will only make things worse. We need to find a way out of this pit trap, and fast.

"No!" I cry out in horror as Varikka's ankle gives way beneath her, sending the fighter tumbling into the pit trap. I rush to the edge of the pit, my heart pounding in my chest as I try to peer into the darkness below. But it's too late - the ground shifts violently again, and I feel a wave of nausea wash over me as I realize just how precarious our situation has become.*

"Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. "Can you hear me? Are you alright?" But there's no response, only the sound of scurrying rodents and the acrid smell of decay rising up from the depths.*

I take a step back from the pit, my mind racing as I try to think of a way out of this nightmare. The Time-Splitting Sword lies just out of reach, its pulsing light now faded into darkness. But with Varikka gone, I'm not sure I have the strength or skill to retrieve it on my own.

"Damn it," I mutter under my breath, my hands balled into tight knots at my sides.* "This place is a death trap. We should never have come down here in the first place."

But even as the words leave my mouth, I know they're not true. The Time-Splitting Sword was our only chance of survival - and now, with Varikka trapped in that pit, it may be our only hope of escape.

With a deep breath, I steel myself for what I know must come next. I can't leave Varikka down there to die - no matter how much danger I might be in myself. I have to find a way to reach her, and fast.

"Varikka!" I call out again, my voice echoing off the stone walls.* "Hold on! I'm coming for you!"

And with that, I turn to face the pit trap, my eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of a way down. It's going to be a long and dangerous journey - but with the lives of both Varikka and myself on the line, I know I have no choice but to see it through.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I know must come next. Then, with a final glance at the Time-Splitting Sword, I turn and start to make my way down into the pit, my heart pounding in my chest as I pray to whatever gods might be listening that I won't end up like Varikka - trapped forever in the depths of this ancient, forgotten tower.

Varrika · Fighter

I feel my heart sink as I hear Merrin's cries echoing from above. The pit trap has closed around us, sealing off our escape route and leaving us trapped in this dark, dank chamber. The air is thick with the stench of decay, and I can hear the scurrying of unseen creatures in the darkness all around us.

But even as despair threatens to overwhelm me, I know we can't give up. Not yet, not ever. Merrin is still up there, alive and fighting to survive. And as long as she's still breathing, there's a chance - however slim - that we might make it out of this alive.

"Merrin!" I call out, my voice echoing off the ancient stone walls.* "Can you hear me? Are you alright?"

There's a moment of silence, and then I hear her reply, muffled but unmistakable. "I'm here, Varikka. I'm...I'm not sure where to go from here. It's dark, and the ground is unstable."

I nod to myself, my mind already racing as I try to come up with a plan. If Merrin's still alive, that means we have a chance - but only if we can find a way to work together.

"Alright," I say, my voice steady despite the fear coursing through my veins.* "We need to stay calm and think this through. Can you see any light sources? Anything that might help us navigate the tunnels?"

I hear a rustling sound from above, followed by Merrin's voice again. "I...I think I can see something. A faint glow, coming from further down the tunnel. It might be another chamber."

I feel a spark of hope kindle in my chest. If there's another chamber, that means there might be a way out - or at least a chance to find supplies and equipment that could help us survive.

"Good," I say, my voice filled with grim determination.* "Keep moving towards it, but be careful. Watch out for traps, and try not to make too much noise. The last thing we need is to attract more attention from whatever's down here with us."

I hear Merrin's footsteps fading into the distance, and I'm left alone in the darkness once more. But even as the fear threatens to overwhelm me, I know we can't give up. Not yet, not ever. We're fighters, and we've faced worse than this before. And with Merrin on our side, there's always a chance - however slim - that we might make it out of this alive.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever lies ahead. Then, with a final glance at the Time-Splitting Sword lying just out of reach above us, I turn and start to make my way deeper into the darkness, my heart pounding in my chest as I pray to whatever gods might be listening that we'll find our way to safety before it's too late.
