As Merrin's torch casts eerie shadows on the walls, the ground shudders again, and a faint rumbling noise echoes through the passageway, growing louder with each passing moment. The air is thick with the smell of dust and decay. Suddenly, a section of the wall collapses, sending a shower of rubble down the corridor. Merrin and Varikka barely avoid being crushed, but their torches are extinguished, plunging them into total darkness. The Guardian's pursuit has led her to this spot, where she can hear the sound of her pursuer's heavy footsteps echoing through the passageway. The ground continues to shake, and the rumbling noise grows louder, making it difficult for Merrin and Varikka to maintain their footing.

I let out a yelp of surprise as the torchlight flickers and dies, plunging us into total darkness. For a moment, I'm frozen in place, my heart pounding in my chest as I try to get my bearings.

"Varikka?" I call out, my voice trembling with fear. "Are you alright?"

There's a moment of silence, and then I hear Varikka's voice, low and strained. "I'm here," she says, her words barely audible over the rumbling of the collapsing ruins. "But we need to keep moving. The whole place could come down on top of us at any moment."

I nod, even though I know Varikka can't see me in the darkness. "You're right," I mutter, my hand tightening on the hilt of my blade as I try to remember where we are in the passageway.

But it's no use. In the darkness, everything looks the same - the walls, the floor, the ceiling. And with each passing moment, the chances of us finding our way out grow slimmer and slimmer.

I grit my teeth against the pain, my injured ankle throbbing with each step as we make our way through the darkness. The ground shudders again, and I can hear the sound of rubble crashing down somewhere in the distance.

"Merrin, can you see anything?" I ask, my voice strained as I try to keep my balance. "This place is coming down around us faster than a landslide."

There's a moment of silence, and then I hear Merrin's voice, low and tense. "Nothing," she mutters, her words barely audible over the rumbling of the collapsing ruins. "But I can feel something. Like a current in the air, pulling me forward."

I nod, even though I know Merrin can't see me in the darkness. "We need to follow it then," I say firmly, my hand tightening on the hilt of my blade. "It's our only chance of finding a way out of here alive."

But even as I speak the words, a sense of dread washes over me. In the darkness, everything feels different - the walls, the floor, the air. And with each passing moment, the chances of us finding our way out grow slimmer and slimmer.

"Merrin," I say, my voice trembling slightly. "I don't know if we're going to make it. This place is coming down around us faster than a house of cards in a hurricane."

Merrin lets out a low chuckle, but there's no humor in it. "We'll make it," she says firmly, squeezing my hand. "We have to. We've come too far to turn back now."
