The ground lurched again, the entire structure groaning like a dying beast. Varrika grit her teeth against the pain, shifting her weight carefully to avoid putting too much pressure on her injured ankle. She had taken a nasty fall earlier, and every step still sent fresh agony shooting up her leg. But there was no time to rest - the whole damn place was coming down around their ears.

Merrin stumbled forward, catching herself against the opposite wall just in time to avoid a face-full of rubble. Dust billowed out from somewhere ahead, thickening the air until it was hard to see more than a few feet in front of them. "FUCK!" Merrin shouted, her voice barely audible over the rumbling of collapsing stone.

"We need to get out of here before this whole place comes down!" Varrika called back, already limping forward as best she could manage. The corridor ahead looked even worse - narrower, the ceiling lower, and precarious-looking stonework lining both walls. But the alternative was waiting for this section to collapse entirely. She gritted her teeth and pressed on, one hand trailing along the wall for balance.

The ground rumbled again, more violently this time. A section of ceiling above them crumbled away in a shower of dust and small stones. Merrin threw herself forward instinctively, covering her head with her arms. Varrika managed to brace herself against the opposite wall, but the impact still sent fresh pain shooting up her leg.

"We need light!" Merrin gasped, already fumbling for her tinderbox. "I can't see a damn thing in this dust!"

Varrika nodded, though she knew her injured ankle made relighting the torch a challenge. She leaned against the wall, trying to ignore the throbbing pain as she struck flint against steel. Sparks flew, but the damp air and thick dust conspired against them - it took three tries before a small flame caught hold.

The renewed light revealed the full extent of their predicament. The corridor ahead was indeed narrower, forcing them to walk single-file. The ceiling was lower, requiring Varrika to hunch forward slightly to avoid scraping her helm. And most concerning of all, the stonework looked unstable - chunks had already crumbled away in places, leaving jagged edges and precarious supports.

Merrin approached carefully, her rogue's eyes scanning for hidden dangers. "This looks like it was built to collapse," she muttered, running a hand along the wall. The stone felt brittle under her fingers, crumbling easily at her touch. "We need to move fast, but careful."

Varrika nodded grimly, shifting her weight onto her good leg as she handed Merrin the torch. "Lead the way," she said, voice tight with pain. "But tell me everything you see up ahead. One wrong step and this whole section could come down on us both."
