Round 736 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin and Varikka approach the glowing portal, it begins to pulse more rapidly, its light enveloping them in an otherworldly glow. Varikka's unease grows, her grip on Merrin's back tightening as she whispers, "I don't like this, Merrin. Elric's words still echo in my mind - we can't just rush into something without being prepared."
Merrin's response is lost in the sudden rush of air as the portal opens, its energy washing over them like a wave. Varikka stumbles back, her eyes wide with fear, as Merrin catches her by the shoulders, her voice firm but urgent. "Hold on, Varikka! I've got you!" The Guardian's roar grows fainter still, but the sound of crumbling stone echoes through the chamber, signaling that structural collapse is imminent in the new area they've just entered. The glowing portal's light begins to distort, its surface rippling like water as it seems to draw them in.
As the portal's light washes over us, I feel an electric tingle race across my skin. Varikka's grip on my back tightens, and I can hear the fear in her voice as she whispers that this feels wrong. I want to reassure her, but the truth is, I'm just as on edge as she is.
When the portal opens with a rush of air, I stumble forward, catching Varikka by the shoulders to keep her steady. The Guardian's roar fades into the distance, but the sound of crumbling stone echoes through the chamber, a grim reminder that our time in this cursed tower is running out.
As the portal's surface ripples like water, I feel an irresistible pull drawing us towards it. My instincts scream at me to resist, to fight against whatever unseen force is trying to drag us in. But Varikka's weight on my back reminds me of our shared goal - we have to keep moving forward, no matter the cost.
With a deep breath, I tighten my grip on my mace and step towards the portal, my voice firm but laced with worry. "Hold on tight, Varikka. We're going in."
As we take that final step and the portal's light envelops us completely, I can only hope that whatever lies on the other side is worth the risk we're taking. The Guardian may be behind us for now, but I have a feeling that our true test of courage is still to come - and I'll be damned if I let anything stop us from facing it together.
As Merrin steps toward the portal, my heart races in my chest. The Guardian's roar fades to a distant echo, but the sound of crumbling stone sends a chill down my spine. I know we can't stay here, but something about this feels... wrong.
I tighten my grip on Merrin's back, my voice low and urgent. "Merrin, wait. Something about this feels... wrong. Elric said we need to face our inner darkness first. Maybe we should be cautious before jumping through without knowing what's on the other side."
But even as the words leave my mouth, I feel an irresistible pull drawing us toward the portal's shimmering surface. The air crackles with energy, and I can't shake the feeling that whatever lies beyond this gateway might be even more dangerous than the Guardian we've just escaped.
With a deep breath, I steel myself for whatever may come next. Merrin's strength and determination have carried us this far, and I know that together, we can face whatever challenges may lie ahead.
As we take that final step and the portal's light envelops us completely, I close my eyes and pray to any gods who might be listening - that whatever lies on the other side is worth the risk we're taking. The Guardian may be behind us for now, but I have a feeling that our true test of courage is still to come - and I'll be damned if I let anything stop us from facing it together.
