Varikka stumbles towards the narrow passageway, her mace held at the ready. As she approaches, Merrin readies herself to block the Guardian's next attack, her eyes fixed on the creature's massive form. Elric watches from the shadows, his eyes narrowed in concern. The Guardian takes a step forward, its massive foot crashing down onto the ground mere inches from Varikka's head. The force of the blow sends a shockwave through the chamber, causing the magical pool to ripple and churn even more violently. Varikka barely has time to raise her mace before the Guardian swings at Merrin with its massive fist. The Guardian's blow lands with a crushing impact, sending Merrin stumbling backward against the wall. The sound of her armor creaking under the force of the blow echoes through the chamber, and for a moment, it seems as though she may not be able to recover in time.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I feel the crushing impact of the Guardian's blow against my back, the force of it driving the air from my lungs and sending me stumbling backwards against the cold stone wall. For a moment, I see stars, my vision blurring at the edges as I struggle to regain my footing.

But even as pain lances through my body, I know that we cannot afford to hesitate. Varikka is still in danger, and the passageway that may be our only chance at escape is right there, just a few steps away. With a grunt of effort, I push myself away from the wall, my mace held at the ready as I prepare to face the Guardian once more.

I glance over at Elric, my eyes narrowing in suspicion even as I feel a flicker of hope at his words. "The Time-Splitting Sword can only be wielded by one who has faced the darkness within themselves..." His eyes seem to bore into my very soul, and for a moment, I feel a chill run down my spine.

But there is no time to dwell on the old man's cryptic words. The Guardian takes a step forward, its massive form looming over us as it raises a hand to strike at Varikka once more. I know that we cannot let it reach her, not when she is still so weakened from her struggle in the magical pool.

With a burst of speed that surprises even me, I launch myself forward, my mace swinging in a wide arc as I aim for the Guardian's leg. The blow lands true, and I feel the satisfying crunch of bone against metal as I put all of my strength into the attack. The Guardian howls in pain, its massive form staggering back from the force of the impact.

But even as I watch the creature reel, I know that this is not enough. We need to find a way to escape, to regroup and come up with a plan. And so, with a final surge of energy, I turn to Varikka, my voice urgent as I call out to her. "Varikka! The passageway - it's our only chance! Go, now, before the Guardian can recover!"

I know that it is a risk, leaving Varikka on her own even for a moment. But I also know that we cannot afford to hesitate, not when the promise of freedom is so close at hand. And so, with a final glance at Elric and a silent prayer to any gods who might be listening, I turn back to face the Guardian once more, my mace raised high and my heart pounding in my chest as I prepare to meet whatever darkness may come.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I watch in horror as Merrin takes the full force of the Guardian's blow, her body crumpling against the wall as the sound of crunching metal fills the air. For a moment, I fear that she is down for good, but then she staggers to her feet, her mace raised high as she prepares to face the creature once more.

I know that Merrin is right - the passageway is our only chance at escape, and we cannot afford to hesitate. With a surge of strength that surprises even me, I stagger to my feet, my muscles burning with the effort of pulling myself free from the magical pool. The Guardian looms before us, its eyes blazing with an otherworldly fury as it raises a hand to strike at Merrin once more.

But even as I watch the creature prepare to attack, I feel a sudden surge of anger rising up within me. This beast has taken so much from us already - Halie, Seraphine, and now Merrin, who has risked her own life to save me. And for what? Some ancient prophecy, some forgotten relic that we know nothing about?

No. I will not let this creature take any more from us. With a roar of defiance, I launch myself forward, my mace swinging in a wide arc as I aim for the Guardian's leg. The blow lands true, and I feel the satisfying crunch of bone against metal as I put all of my strength into the attack.

The Guardian howls in pain, its massive form staggering back from the force of the impact. And for a moment, I feel a flicker of hope - perhaps we can defeat this creature after all, and emerge from this tower victorious.

But then I remember Elric's words, echoing in my mind even as I struggle to catch my breath. "The Time-Splitting Sword can only be wielded by one who has faced the darkness within themselves..." And I know that he is right. This fight is about more than just physical strength or skill with a weapon. It is about the strength of our spirits, the unbreakable bonds of friendship and loyalty that have carried us this far.

I think of Merrin, fighting valiantly against the Guardian even as she risks her own life to save me. I think of Halie and Seraphine, lost to the darkness of this tower but never forgotten. And I know that we cannot give up, not now, not when the promise of freedom is so close at hand.

With a final burst of energy, I stagger towards the passageway, my mace held at the ready and my heart pounding in my chest. The Guardian may have caught us off guard, but we will not go down without a fight. Together, Merrin and I will face whatever darkness lies ahead, and emerge victorious... or die trying.

And as I reach the narrow opening, I turn back to face Merrin one last time, my voice hoarse with exertion but filled with a renewed sense of purpose. "Merrin! Get out of here, now! I'll hold the beast off for as long as I can!"

I know that it is a risk, leaving Merrin alone even for a moment. But I also know that we cannot afford to hesitate, not when the promise of freedom is so close at hand. And so, with a final nod of understanding, I turn back to face the Guardian once more, my mace raised high and my heart pounding in my chest as I prepare to meet whatever darkness may come.
