As Merrin and Varikka prepare to face the Guardian, Elric's eyes seem to bore into their souls. "The Time-Splitting Sword can only be wielded by one who has faced the darkness within themselves, who has confronted the shadows that lurk within their own hearts." The Guardian takes a step closer, its massive frame looming over the two injured adventurers. Suddenly, the floor gives way beneath Varikka's feet, sending her tumbling into the magical pool on the floor. The Guardian's eyes flash with anger, and it raises a massive hand to strike at Merrin.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I watch in horror as Varikka tumbles into the magical pool, her body disappearing beneath the shimmering surface. The Guardian's eyes flash with anger, and it raises a massive hand to strike at me. I barely manage to dodge the blow, feeling the rush of air as its fist whizzes past my face.

But I know that we cannot fight this creature alone. Elric's words echo in my mind, urging us to confront the darkness within ourselves. And so, with a burst of desperate energy, I lash out with my mace, striking at the Guardian's leg in a vicious downward chop.

The blow lands true, and I feel the satisfying crunch of bone against metal. The Guardian howls in pain, its massive form staggering back from the force of the impact. But even as I raise my mace for another strike, I know that this is not enough. We need to find a way to escape, to regroup and come up with a plan.

I look around the chamber, my eyes scanning the walls for any sign of an exit. The magical pool continues to ripple and churn, its surface glowing with an eerie light. And then, in the shadows at the far end of the room, I spot it - a narrow passageway, just barely visible in the dim light.

I know that we cannot stay here, that the Guardian will soon recover from my attack and come for us again. But I also know that we cannot leave Varikka behind. With a heavy heart, I turn to Elric, my voice trembling with urgency.

"Elric, please - help us. We need to get out of here, but we can't leave Varikka alone in that pool. Is there any way you can help us escape?"

I know that the odds are against us, that the Guardian is too powerful for us to defeat on our own. But I also know that we cannot give up, not now, not when Varikka's life may depend on our actions. And so, with a deep breath and a silent prayer to any gods who might be listening, I prepare to make my next move, hoping against hope that Elric's knowledge and guidance will be enough to see us through this impossible situation.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I struggle against the pull of the water, my limbs heavy and sluggish as I fight to keep my head above the shimmering surface. The Guardian looms over me, its eyes blazing with an otherworldly fury as it raises a massive hand to strike.

But even as I brace for the inevitable impact, I hear Merrin's voice, clear and strong as she lashes out at the creature with her mace. The sound of bone against metal fills the chamber, and for a moment, I think that we might have a chance.

And then, through the haze of pain and exhaustion, I see it - a narrow passageway, just barely visible in the shadows at the far end of the room. My heart leaps with a sudden surge of hope, and I redouble my efforts to free myself from the magical pool's grip.

Elric's words echo in my mind, urging us to confront the darkness within ourselves. And as I struggle against the pull of the water, I realize that he is right. This fight is about more than just physical strength or skill with a weapon. It is about the strength of our spirits, the unbreakable bonds of friendship and loyalty that have carried us this far.

I think of Merrin, fighting valiantly against the Guardian even as she risks her own life to save me. I think of Halie and Seraphine, lost to the darkness of this tower but never forgotten. And I know that we cannot give up, not now, not when the promise of freedom is so close at hand.

With a final burst of effort, I wrench myself free from the pool's grip, my muscles burning with the strain of the struggle. I stumble to my feet, my vision blurred and my breath coming in ragged gasps, but alive and determined to fight on.

"Merrin!" I call out, my voice hoarse with exertion but filled with a renewed sense of purpose. "I'm coming! Hold that beast off for just a little longer!"

And with that, I stagger towards the passageway, my mace held at the ready and my heart pounding in my chest. The Guardian may have caught us off guard, but we will not go down without a fight. Together, Merrin and I will face whatever darkness lies ahead, and emerge victorious... or die trying.
