Phase: escalating

The chamber groaned around them like a beast waking from slumber, each creak and shift sending fresh tremors through the unstable floor. Merrin stumbled as another section of ceiling gave way overhead, a cascade of stone and dust raining down mere feet away. Her heart hammered in her chest, not just from the near miss but from the sheer terror of being trapped beneath tons of collapsing masonry.
Across the chamber, Varikka managed to regain her footing despite her sprained ankle screaming protests with each movement. The fighter's scarred hands gripped her heavy mace like a lifeline as she fought to control her breathing and the panic rising in her throat. "Merrin!" she called out, voice barely audible over the cacophony of destruction surrounding them. "I think I see it! The gap we need!"
Merrin's dark eyes scanned the area Varrika indicated, searching for any sign of salvation amidst the chaos. A narrow crevice did indeed seem to offer a potential escape route - but it was on the opposite side of the chamber, and between her current position and that gap lay a treacherous mountain of rubble and fallen beams. Each step would be a gamble against structural failure.
The sound of something massive moving through the debris behind them froze Merrin mid-stride. The Guardian. It had survived their earlier confrontation and was now actively hunting them down in this collapsing tomb. She could hear its labored breathing, the scrape of claws on stone - it was getting closer with each passing second.
"Varikka," Merrin said, her voice tight with barely contained fear, "we need to move. Now." The rogue's fingers tightened around the hilt of her dagger as she began picking her way across the unstable ground, every instinct screaming at her to run but knowing that a single misplaced step could send her plummeting into the abyss below.
Varrika nodded grimly, her own grip on the mace tightening until her knuckles turned white. "Lead the way," she managed, forcing herself to take the first agonizing step towards their potential salvation. The ground beneath them groaned ominously in response.
