Merrin's hand tightens around Varikka's, offering support as they make their way across the treacherous bridge of debris. The ground shudders beneath them, sending small fragments of stone raining down on both women. As they near the midpoint, a particularly large chunk of rubble swings down, barely missing Varikka's head. She winces, her eyes flashing with alarm, but Merrin's grip holds fast, steadying her. The Guardian's roar grows louder, echoing off the chamber walls as it closes in on the pair. The air is thick with the smell of dust and decay, and the weight of the rubble beneath their feet feels oppressive. Suddenly, a loud crack splits the air, and the bridge shudders violently, threatening to send them tumbling.

"Careful!" I shout, grabbing Varikka's arm as the bridge shudders beneath our feet. The ground trembles, sending chunks of debris raining down around us. I can hear the Guardian's roar growing louder, its presence closing in like a noose. We're trapped - the rubble behind us has collapsed, leaving only one path forward. And that path is treacherous, at best. I glance back at Varikka, my heart in my throat. "Can you make the jump?"

Her eyes meet mine, and for a moment, I see the fear lurking there beneath the surface. The pain from her sprained ankle is written all over her face. But then her jaw sets, determined, and she nods. "I have to. We don't have a choice."

I know she's right. This tower won't hold much longer, not with the Guardian wreaking havoc on its foundations. And if we stay here, we'll be buried alive. I take a deep breath, steeling myself. The bridge looks even narrower from this angle, the gap between the rubble piles wider than it seemed before. But Varikka's already moving, her muscles coiling like a spring as she prepares to leap. I reach out, my hand brushing her arm in a silent show of support. "On three," I whisper, my voice barely audible over the cacophony of falling stone and approaching beast. "One..."

The countdown hangs in the air between us, a fragile thread of hope amidst the chaos. I can feel the weight of the tower bearing down on us, the crushing pressure of the impending collapse. But for now, all that matters is this moment - this leap of faith into the unknown. "Two..."
