Round 721 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The ground shudders violently as Varikka pushes against the loose stones, her face set in a grimace of effort. The section of wall slowly begins to stabilize, but the sound of crumbling mortar and falling debris continues to echo through the corridor. Merrin's eyes dart back and forth, searching for any other potential hazards as she whispers, "Keep moving, we're almost there!" With a final heave from Varikka, the section of wall holds firm, and the group presses on, their footsteps echoing off the cold stone walls. As they round a corner, the corridor opens up into a large chamber filled with a sea of rubble. The Guardian's roar grows louder still, and it becomes clear that the structural collapse has created a new path for the creature to pursue them. A section of the ceiling has collapsed, sending a pile of debris crashing down onto the rubble below, creating a makeshift bridge to the other side of the chamber. However, the bridge is narrow and treacherous, and Merrin can see that it will require Varikka to make a difficult jump to cross over safely. Merrin's eyes flicker to Varikka, her expression a mix of concern and determination. "Varikka, you'll need to be careful - we can't afford to lose you again."
"That was close - too close!" I pant out, my heart still racing from the exertion of shoring up the collapsing wall. The sound of the Guardian's approach echoes through the chamber, a reminder that we're far from safe yet. I scan the room, my eyes darting over the piles of rubble and debris, searching for any sign of a path forward. "Varikka, you okay?" I ask, concern lacing my voice as I turn to face her. The Fighter's face is a mask of pain, her body trembling with the effort of maintaining her balance on the unstable ground. But even through the agony, I can see the determination in her eyes, the sheer force of will that drives her to keep pushing forward despite the odds stacked against us. "We need to keep moving," Varikka grunts out, her jaw set tight with resolve. "That creature won't stop until it's torn this whole place down around our ears."
I nod grimly, my mind already racing ahead to the challenges that lie ahead of us. The bridge of debris looks treacherous, the narrow path offering little room for error as we make our way across. But with the Guardian closing in and the tower crumbling around us, we have no choice but to take the risk. "Stay close," I murmur to Varikka as I step out onto the makeshift bridge, my hand reaching back to offer her a steadying grip. "And watch your step - we can't afford to lose our footing now."
As we make our way across, I find myself wondering what other horrors this cursed place has in store for us. The map in my pocket feels like little more than a useless scrap of parchment, its promised path to the legendary sword now lost beneath the rubble and debris. But even with all the odds stacked against us, I refuse to give up. We've come too far, sacrificed too much, to turn back now. And as Varikka and I reach the other side of the chamber, our hands still clasped together in a silent show of solidarity, I know that whatever lies ahead, we'll face it together.
