As Merrin lurches forward, her ankle screaming in agony, she stumbles upon Varikka's weak cry for help. With each labored step, the ground beneath her gives way, causing her to stumble and nearly fall. The Guardian's roar grows louder, its presence imminent. Merrin manages to drag herself closer to Varikka, her crossbow clutched in one hand and a makeshift rope fashioned from her belt in the other. As she reaches Varikka, she realizes that the injured fighter is unable to stand, her leg twisted at an awkward angle. The Guardian's sword flashes in the dim light, mere feet away from Merrin's position. Varikka's eyes lock onto Merrin's, filled with desperation and fear. "Merrin... I don't think I can hold on much longer," Varikka whispers, her voice barely audible over the sound of the Guardian's approach.

"Varikka! I'm here! Hold on!" I lunge forward, nearly tripping over my own feet as the slick stone gives way beneath me. My ankle screams in protest, but I ignore it, my entire focus centered on reaching Varikka before it's too late. I can see her now, lying on the ground just a few feet away, her leg twisted at an unnatural angle. She looks up at me, her eyes wide with pain and fear, and I know that we don't have much time left. The Guardian's roar echoes off the stone walls, growing louder with each passing second. I can hear the sound of its footsteps now, the heavy tread of metal against stone as it draws closer and closer to our position. I drop to my knees beside Varikka, my hands already working to fashion a makeshift splint from the remains of my belt. "We need to get out of here, now," I mutter, my voice tight with urgency. "Can you move at all?"

Varikka shakes her head, wincing as she tries to shift her weight. "I don't... I don't think so," she gasps, her words coming out in short, painful bursts. "My leg... it's not working right."

I glance over my shoulder, my heart pounding in my chest as I hear the Guardian draw closer. We're running out of time. I have to make a decision, and I have to make it now. I look back at Varikka, my eyes locking with hers as I take a deep breath. "I'm going to get us out of here," I tell her, my voice steady despite the fear that claws at my insides. "But I need you to trust me. Can you do that?"

Varikka nods, her expression filled with a mixture of pain and determination. "I trust you, Merrin," she whispers, her words barely audible over the sound of the Guardian's approach. "Do whatever you have to do."

I take another deep breath, steeling myself for what comes next. With a grunt of effort, I hoist Varikka onto my back, my hands gripping tightly around her waist as I struggle to maintain my balance on the slick stone floor. The Guardian's roar is almost deafening now, its presence just beyond the edge of the pit. I can feel the heat of its breath on the back of my neck, the weight of its sword poised to strike. But I don't have time to think about that. All that matters now is getting Varikka out of here, alive and in one piece. And so, with a final burst of strength, I launch myself forward, my feet skidding across the wet stone as I race towards the edge of the pit, praying that we'll make it out alive.
