Round 706 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Guardian's eyes narrow, its gaze flicking between Merrin and Varikka as it takes a step back. "You fools," it growls, its voice like thunder in the small space. "You think you can defeat me? I will crush you both, and then I will claim this sword for myself!" The Guardian raises its sword, the blade glinting menacingly in the dim light of the chamber. Merrin dodges to the side, avoiding the sword's initial blow by a hair's breadth. Varikka takes advantage of the opening, striking at the Guardian with her mace. However, the Guardian's speed proves too much, and it easily parries the attack. The Guardian retaliates, its sword slicing towards Varikka. The air is filled with the sound of crashing metal as the two combatants exchange blows.
I dodge to the side, narrowly avoiding the Guardian's initial swipe with its sword. My heart pounds in my chest as I see Varikka launch herself at the beast, her mace swinging through the air.
But the Guardian is too fast, parrying Varikka's blow with ease. It retaliates, its sword slicing towards my friend, who barely manages to block the attack in time. The sound of clashing metal echoes through the chamber, and I can see the strain on Varikka's face as she struggles to keep up with the Guardian's relentless assault.
I know we can't keep this up for long. We need to find a way to disable the Guardian or get that sword away from it before it's too late. But how? The room is bare, with no obvious weaknesses or vulnerabilities to exploit.
And then, I see it. A small, glowing orb embedded in the wall behind the Guardian, pulsing with an otherworldly energy. I've seen orbs like this before, in the depths of the dungeons we've explored. They're often used to power magical wards or defenses, and if we can destroy it, we might be able to weaken the Guardian's strength.
I glance at Varikka, who's still locked in combat with the Guardian. "Varikka!" I shout, my voice cutting through the din of battle. "Cover me! I need to get behind that orb!"
Varikka nods, her eyes narrowing with determination as she redoubles her efforts against the Guardian. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. This is going to be dangerous, but it's our only chance.
And with that, I launch myself towards the orb, my hands reaching out to grab at its glowing surface. The Guardian snarls, its sword whipping through the air as it tries to intercept me. But Varikka is there, her mace blocking the blow and giving me the opening I need.
I reach the orb, my fingers brushing against its pulsing surface. It feels warm to the touch, almost alive. I close my eyes, focusing on the energy flowing through it. And then, with a grunt of effort, I channel my magic into the orb, pouring every ounce of my strength into the attack.
The orb shatters with a brilliant flash of light, and I feel the Guardian's strength wane. It staggers back, its sword arm dropping to its side as it struggles to maintain its footing. Varikka takes advantage of the opening, her mace crashing into the Guardian's head with a sickening crunch.
And then, it's over. The Guardian falls to the ground, its body still and lifeless. I collapse next to Varikka, my chest heaving as I struggle to catch my breath. We did it. We defeated the Guardian, and claimed the sword for ourselves.
But as I look around at the ancient artifacts and strange devices littering the chamber, I can't shake the feeling that our adventure is far from over. There's still so much we don't know, so many mysteries yet to be unraveled. And I have a feeling that whatever comes next, it's going to be even more dangerous than anything we've faced before.
