Round 693 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin lunges forward with her dagger, the Guardian swiftly parries the attack with its sword, sending a glint of light off the blade. The chamber shudders once more, and a chunk of stone crashes onto the ledge mere inches from where Merrin stands, sending dust and debris swirling around her. She stumbles back, her foot catching on a loose stone. The Guardian takes another step closer, its eyes fixed intently on Merrin. "You will not leave this place," it growls, its voice low and menacing. Suddenly, the ground beneath Merrin's feet gives way, and she finds herself sliding down the narrow ledge, her dagger slipping from her grasp. She manages to grab onto a jagged rock protruding from the wall, her fingers digging into it desperately as she teeters above the abyss below. Immediate pressure: Merrin must now find a way to hold on to the rock while keeping the Guardian at bay, all while navigating the treacherous ledge and the imminent structural collapse.
I dig my fingers into the jagged rock, my nails scraping against the rough surface. The Guardian looms above me, its sword raised threateningly. I can feel the ledge crumbling beneath my feet, the ground giving way with each passing second. My heart pounds in my chest as I struggle to maintain my grip, my muscles burning from the effort. I glance down into the abyss below, the darkness swallowing everything up. Varikka could be down there somewhere, injured and waiting for me to rescue her. But with the Guardian blocking my path, I know I can't just let go and hope for the best. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I have to do next. "You want to fight?" I call out, my voice echoing off the stone walls. "Then give me something to work with!"
I release one hand from the rock, reaching out with a desperate lunge for the Guardian's sword arm. It's a risky move, but it's all I've got. I can only hope that I can catch the Guardian off guard and use the momentum to pull myself back up onto the ledge. As I reach out, I feel the ground shift beneath my feet once more. The ledge is crumbling away, piece by piece, and I know we don't have much time left before the whole chamber collapses around us. But I can't think about that now. All I can focus on is survival - for myself, and for Varikka. I grit my teeth, my muscles straining as I reach out with a desperate lunge for the Guardian's sword arm. It's now or never.
Varikka's mind races as she clings desperately to the crumbling ledge, her fingers digging into the jagged rock. "Merrin!" she shouts, her voice echoing off the stone walls. "I'm down here! I've fallen into a chasm."
She can hear the sound of falling debris above, the hiss of noxious gas filling her lungs with each breath. "The Guardian is blocking my path," she calls out, her voice strained with effort. "I need help to get back up there."
Varikka's heart pounds in her chest as she tries to focus on holding on, her muscles burning from the strain. "I think I can see a path down below," she shouts, peering into the darkness. "But it's too far to jump. Merrin, if you can find a way down, I might be able to climb up to meet you."
She knows they don't have much time before the whole chamber collapses around them, but she can't think about that now. All she can focus on is survival - for herself and for Merrin. "Just be careful," she calls out, her voice trembling with fear. "The ledge is crumbling away. We need to move quickly."
Varikka takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what she has to do next. "I'll try to find a way down," she shouts, her voice echoing off the stone walls. "But I might need your help when I get there. Stay safe, Merrin. We'll get through this together."
With that, Varikka starts to navigate the treacherous path down below, her fingers searching for footholds in the darkness. She knows it's a risk, but she can't just wait here and hope for the best. She has to do something - even if it means putting herself in danger.
