Round 692 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin turns to face the Guardian, the chamber shudders violently, the sound of falling debris growing louder. The Guardian raises its hand, sword at the ready, its eyes fixed intently on Merrin. Suddenly, a chunk of stone crashes down onto the ledge mere inches from where Merrin stands, sending dust and debris swirling around her. She stumbles back, her foot catching on a loose stone. The Guardian takes another step closer, its hand still raised, as Merrin frantically scans the ledge for a new path to Varikka. The air is thick with noxious gas, and Merrin can feel her lungs burning from the fumes. The rope that Varikka was clinging to lies broken and tangled on the ground below, a grim reminder of their precarious situation. The Guardian's gaze shifts towards the ledge, its eyes narrowing as it takes in the scene. "You will not leave this place," it growls, its voice low and menacing.
I crouch down, trying to peer over the ledge into the darkness below. "Varikka! Can you hear me?" My voice echoes off the stone walls, but there's no response. Only the distant sound of falling debris and the hiss of noxious gas. The Guardian looms closer, its sword raised menacingly. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest as I back away, my hand tightening on the hilt of my dagger. The ledge is narrow, and I can feel the ground shifting beneath my feet with each step. I know we don't have much time before the whole chamber comes down around us. But I can't leave Varikka behind. Not after all we've been through together. "I'm coming, Varikka," I mutter under my breath, more to myself than to anyone else. "Just hold on."
With that, I turn back to face the Guardian, my eyes narrowed in determination. It's now or never. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I have to do next. "You want a fight?" I ask, my voice low and challenging. "Let's dance then."
I lunge forward, my dagger flashing in the dim light as I aim for the Guardian's throat. It's a desperate move, but it's all I've got. I can only hope that Varikka is still alive down there, waiting for me to rescue her. And if not... well, I'll mourn her later. Right now, I have a battle to win.
