Round 683 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's eyes lock onto Varikka's voice, and she strains to respond. "Varikka, I'm here! I'll get you out of there, don't worry." Her voice is steady, but a shiver runs down her spine as she realizes the gravity of their situation. The Guardian's approach forces her to move along the unstable stone surface, further endangering her already compromised position. A faint creaking noise comes from the bridge's collapse, causing Merrin to freeze, wondering if the wooden planks might still hold. She hesitates for a moment before taking a tentative step forward, testing the ledge's stability. The sound of falling rocks and debris continues to echo through the passageway, and Merrin's heart quickens with every step she takes.
I call back to Varikka, my voice echoing off the stone walls. "Varikka, I'm here! I'll get you out of there, don't worry." My heart races as I try to gauge her distance. The noxious gas burns my throat, making it hard to breathe, but I push through the pain. I edge along the narrow ledge, testing each step before committing my weight. The sound of falling rocks and debris from the collapsed bridge fills my ears, and I shudder at the thought of Varikka being caught beneath the rubble. I have to get to her, but I know I can't afford to be careless. One wrong move could send me tumbling into the abyss as well. As I make my way along the ledge, I keep my eyes peeled for any sign of movement in the darkness below. The air is thick with the noxious gas, and I can feel my head starting to swim from the lack of oxygen. But I push on, ignoring the burning in my lungs. I have to find a way down to Varikka. And fast. Suddenly, a sound reaches my ears. A soft scuffling, like footsteps on stone. I freeze, my breath catching in my throat. It's coming from the direction of the bridge. Could it be Varikka? Or is the Guardian still following us? I strain my ears, trying to make out any other sounds. But there's nothing else. Just the distant drip of water and the occasional creak of settling stone. I swallow hard, my mouth dry as dust. Whatever's down there, I have to find a way to get to Varikka. And fast. I take another deep breath and begin to make my way along the ledge, feeling for handholds in the darkness. The air is thick with the noxious gas, making it hard to breathe, but I push on, ignoring the burning in my lungs. I can't let Varikka down. Not after everything we've been through. As I move, I keep my eyes peeled for any sign of movement in the darkness below. And I pray that whatever lies at the end of this path, it's worth the risk. Because right now, with the Guardian hot on our heels and the sword still out of reach, I'm not sure if we have a choice. But I have to try. For Varikka. And for myself. I take another step forward, testing the ledge's stability. The sound of falling rocks and debris continues to echo through the passageway, and I shudder at the thought of being caught beneath the rubble. But I can't afford to be careless. One wrong move could send me tumbling into the abyss as well. I have to find a way down to Varikka. And fast. The ledge is narrow and treacherous, the stone slick with moisture. But I have to find a way down there. I press myself against the wall, feeling for handholds in the cracks and crevices. My fingers find purchase on a jagged edge of rock, and I haul myself up, pressing my back against the cold stone as I look for a path down.
"Merrin! I'm here!" I call out, my voice echoing off the stone walls. "I think I sprained my ankle, but I don't think anything's broken. Don't try to get down here - it's too dangerous!"
I try to sit up, using my arms to brace against the rocky floor. But the pain in my ankle is excruciating, and I can barely move without wincing. I look around, trying to get my bearings. The chasm is dark and narrow, the walls slick with moisture. I can hear the sound of falling rocks and debris from the collapsed bridge above, but I can't see Merrin from where I'm lying. "Merrin, are you still there?" I call out again, my voice cracking with fear. "We need to find another way out of here. The Guardian is still on our heels, and we can't afford to be caught in this trap."
I try to stand up, but the pain in my ankle is too much to bear. I collapse back onto the ground, panting heavily. "Merrin, I can't move," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. "You're going to have to find another way out of here. And fast."
I listen intently for any sign of movement in the darkness, praying that Merrin has heard me and is already on her way to safety. But all I can hear is the sound of falling rocks and the distant drip of water. I close my eyes, trying to steady my breathing. We're in serious trouble now, and I have no idea how we're going to get out of this alive.
