Merrin's eyes scan the chasm, her grip on the edge of the ledge tightening as she tries to locate Varikka. The air is thick with noxious gas, making it hard to breathe, and the sound of falling rocks from the bridge's collapse echoes through the passageway. The wooden bridge, now a tangled mess, blocks her view into the depths of the chasm. She knows Varikka's mace is lost, but she remembers the fighter's determination and resourcefulness. The Guardian's approach forces Merrin to move along unstable stone surface, further endangering her already compromised position. As she searches for a way down, a faint creaking noise comes from the bridge's collapse, causing Merrin to freeze, wondering if the wooden planks might still hold.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin: The bridge collapses with a sickening crunch of splintering wood, sending Varikka tumbling into the abyss below. I stare in horror, my heart pounding against my ribs as I strain to catch any sound of her hitting the stone floor. But only silence echoes back. Panic rises in my throat like bile, but I shove it down. I can't afford to fall apart now. Not when Varikka needs me. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my shaking hands. The ledge I'm clinging to is narrow and treacherous, the stone slick with moisture. But I have to find a way down there. I press myself against the wall, feeling for handholds in the cracks and crevices. My fingers find purchase on a jagged edge of rock, and I haul myself up, pressing my back against the cold stone as I look for a path down. The noxious gas burns my throat and makes my head spin, but I force myself to keep moving. Suddenly, a sound reaches my ears. A soft scuffling, like footsteps on stone. I freeze, my breath catching in my throat. It's coming from the direction of the bridge. Could it be Varikka? Or is the Guardian still following us? I strain my ears, trying to make out any other sounds. But there's nothing else. Just the distant drip of water and the occasional creak of settling stone. I swallow hard, my mouth dry as dust. Whatever's down there, I have to find a way to get to Varikka. And fast. I take another deep breath and begin to make my way along the ledge, feeling for handholds in the darkness. The air is thick with the noxious gas, making it hard to breathe, but I push on, ignoring the burning in my lungs. I can't let Varikka down. Not after everything we've been through. As I move, I keep my eyes peeled for any sign of movement in the darkness below. And I pray that whatever lies at the end of this path, it's worth the risk. Because right now, with the Guardian hot on our heels and the sword still out of reach, I'm not sure if we have a choice. Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varikka: "Merrin! I'm down here!" I call out, my voice echoing off the stone walls. The pain in my ankle is excruciating, but I force myself to sit up, using my arms to brace against the rocky floor. "I think I sprained my ankle, but I don't think anything's broken."

I look around, trying to get my bearings. The chasm is dark and narrow, the walls slick with moisture. I can hear the sound of falling rocks and debris from the collapsed bridge above, but I can't see Merrin from where I'm lying. "Merrin, are you still there?" I call out again, my voice cracking with fear. "I need your help."
