The tension in ancient stone chamber tightens for a beat as the interruption refuses to go away. Everyone is forced to stay quiet and choose their next move carefully.

The tension in the ancient stone chamber is palpable as we prepare to make our move. Varikka's injured ankle throbs with pain, and the noxious fumes from the gas exposure linger in the air, making it difficult to think clearly. But we can't afford to hesitate any longer. "Stay close," I whisper to Varikka, my voice tight with tension as I grip my crossbow. "And watch for any sign of the Guardian. If he shows up, we need to be ready to fight."

Varikka nods, her mace gripped tightly in her hand. Together, we step into the shadows of the narrow passageway, ready to face whatever lies ahead. As we move forward, I keep my senses on high alert, scanning the darkness for any sign of movement or danger. The rodents scurry around us, their tiny feet skittering across the stone floor. I try to use their movement to mask our own, taking small, careful steps as we make our way deeper into the passageway. But even with all my focus on staying hidden, I can't shake the feeling that something is off. The air feels heavy, thick with an unseen menace. And the further we go, the more the passageway seems to twist and turn, as if we're being led deeper into a labyrinth of our own making. Suddenly, a low growl echoes through the shadows, sending a chill down my spine. I freeze, my hand tightening on my crossbow as I strain to hear any other sounds. But there's nothing. Just the scurrying of the rodents and the distant drip of water from somewhere in the depths of the chamber. I glance back at Varikka, my eyes meeting hers in the darkness. She looks back at me, her face set in a grim expression of pain and determination. We both know that we can't turn back now. We have to keep moving forward, no matter what lies ahead. So I take another step into the shadows, my crossbow at the ready, and continue on into the unknown.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Varikka: Merrin, I see what you're doing. You're trying to lead us deeper into the Guardian's domain, aren't you? I can feel it in my bones, like the ache in my ankle. But I trust your judgment. If you say this is our best chance, then I'm with you. I tighten my grip on my mace, the weight of it comforting in my hand. The rodents scurry around our feet, their tiny bodies brushing against my boots as we move through the shadows. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something foul that makes my stomach turn. But I push the nausea aside, focusing on putting one foot in front of the other. As we round a corner, I hear a low growl echoing through the passageway. I freeze, my heart pounding in my chest as I strain to hear any other sounds. But there's nothing. Just the scurrying of the rodents and the distant drip of water from somewhere in the depths of the chamber. I glance back at Merrin, my eyes meeting hers in the darkness. She looks back at me, her face set in a grim expression of pain and determination. We both know that we can't turn back now. We have to keep moving forward, no matter what lies ahead. So I take another step into the shadows, my mace at the ready, and continue on into the unknown. The passageway twists and turns, leading us deeper into the heart of the ancient stone chamber. And with each step, I can feel the Guardian's presence growing stronger, like a dark cloud looming over our heads. But I don't let it stop me. I've faced worse than this in my years as a warrior. And I know that Merrin has faced her own share of danger. Together, we can face whatever the Guardian throws at us. I just hope that the sword is worth all of this. Because right now, with my ankle throbbing and the fumes from the gas exposure making it hard to think straight, I'm not sure if I have the strength to keep going. But I have to try. For Merrin. For the others who didn't make it out of here alive. And for myself, because I know that if I give up now, I'll never forgive myself. So I keep moving forward, one step at a time, and pray that the Guardian doesn't catch us off guard.
