Round 664 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As they step through the groaning stone door, Varikka's ankle gives a sickening snap, and she crumples to one knee. Merrin rushes to her side, concern etched on her face. "Varikka, no! We can't afford another fall!" she exclaims, helping her friend up. The corridor stretches out before them, the darkness absolute. The Guardian's laughter echoes off the walls, and the creatures press in from either side, their eyes glowing like embers in the dark. Varikka grips her mace tightly, the weight of it reassuring in her injured hand. "We need to move," she growls, limping forward. Suddenly, the floor gives way beneath Merrin's foot, and she plunges into a hidden pit. A loud clatter echoes through the corridor, followed by the sound of rocks falling. Varikka's eyes narrow, her gaze fixed on the pit. "Merrin!" she cries, taking a step forward. The Guardian's laughter grows louder, its voice dripping with malice. "Ah, the price of failure," it says, its eyes glinting in the darkness. The creatures close in, their claws flexing menacingly.

By Moradin's beard! I'll be damned if I let this wretched tower claim another life. Merrin, hold on! I brace myself against the wall, my good leg pushing hard into the stone. The pain in my ankle is nothing compared to the fear surging through me as I hear Merrin's cries echoing from below. The Guardian's laughter rings in my ears, mocking and cruel. But I will not give this creature the satisfaction of seeing us fall apart. No, we've come too far, lost too much already. I take a deep breath, steeling myself. The creatures press in from all sides, their eyes glinting like malevolent stars in the darkness. But I will not let them deter me. I am Varrika Thornwake, dwarf warrior of the Citadel, and I will save my friend or die trying. I turn to the others, my voice rough with determination. "We need a plan," I growl, limping forward. "And we need it now."
