Round 653 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The ground beneath us gives way once more, and we tumble into a deep pit. The walls close in around us like a vice, trapping us. Varikka's cry of pain echoes through the chamber as she falls hard onto the rocky floor, her ankle twisted at an awkward angle. I quickly assess her injury, realizing it's severe enough to make mobility impossible. The noxious gas exposure is making my head spin, and the limited light source forces me to rely on my other senses. I fumble in my inventory for a torch, hoping to find one that still has fuel left. With shaking hands, I light it, casting flickering shadows on the walls of our prison. The Guardian's laughter echoes through the pit, "You'll never escape!" I realize we're running out of time – and options.
I drop down into the pit beside Varikka, my hands already reaching for her ankle. "Let me see..." I mutter, examining the angry red swelling. But even as I speak the words, I know it's futile. The angle is wrong, the joint too inflamed to be trusted. "Damn it all to hell," I mutter, feeling a surge of frustration well up inside me. "We're trapped."
Varikka's face is pale and drawn, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she clutches her ankle. But even through the pain, I can see the determination in her eyes. "We'll find a way out," she grunts, her voice strained but resolute. "There has to be..."
She trails off, her gaze darting to the flickering torchlight on the walls. The shadows dance and writhe, casting eerie shapes across the pit's confines. And there, in the far corner, I spot it – a narrow opening, just big enough for us to squeeze through. "Varikka!" I shout, pointing towards the escape route. "There! We can-"
But before I can finish my sentence, a deep rumble echoes through the chamber. The ground beneath us shifts and heaves, sending stones tumbling down the walls. Varikka's cry of pain mixes with the Guardian's taunting laughter, "You'll never escape!" But I don't have time to dwell on his taunts. All that matters is finding a way out of this nightmare. I grab Varikka's arm, hauling her to her feet with a grunt of effort. The dwarf warrior stumbles, her weight pulling at my strained muscles. But I grit my teeth and push forward, determined to keep us moving no matter the cost. "Hold on!" I shout, my voice barely audible over the roar of falling stone. "We've got to keep moving!"
Together, we stagger forward through the collapsing passageway, our hearts pounding in our chests as we race against the clock. We may be trapped, but we're not helpless. And by the gods, I'll fight tooth and nail until my last breath if that's what it takes to survive this nightmare. But even as I say the words, a nagging doubt gnaws at the back of my mind. How much longer can we keep this up? My own strength is waning, and Varikka's injured ankle is clearly a liability. And then there's the Guardian, always one step ahead, always ready to strike when we're at our weakest. I shake my head, pushing the thoughts aside. No use dwelling on the impossible. We'll face that when we come to it. For now, all we can do is keep moving forward, one step at a time, and pray to whatever gods might be listening that we find a way out of this hell before it's too late. Merrin's by my side, and that's all the courage I need. Together, we'll fight our way to freedom or die trying. There's no other choice. I take a deep breath, steeling myself as I prepare to haul Varikka over the next stretch of rubble. The dwarf warrior's weight pulls at my arms, threatening to send us both tumbling into the debris-filled tunnel. But I grit my teeth and push forward, determined to keep us moving no matter the cost. "Hold on!" I shout, my voice barely audible over the roar of falling stone. "We've got to keep moving!"
Suddenly, a faint glow emanates from up ahead, casting eerie shadows on the walls. We quicken our pace, our hearts pounding in our chests, as the tunnel opens into a vast chamber filled with rubble and debris. The Guardian's laughter echoes through the room, "You'll never escape!" But I don't have time to dwell on his taunts. All that matters is finding a way out of this nightmare. I scan the chamber, my eyes darting over the piles of rubble and debris. And there, in the far corner, I spot it – a narrow opening, just big enough for us to squeeze through. "Varikka!" I shout, pointing towards the escape route. "There! We can-"
But before I can finish my sentence, the ground beneath us gives way once more. This time, we're trapped in a deep pit, the walls closing in around us like a vice. Varikka's cry of pain echoes through the chamber as she falls hard onto the rocky floor, her ankle twisted at an awkward angle. We're running out of time – and options. I drop to my knees beside the dwarf warrior, my hands already reaching for her injured leg. "Varikka," I pant, my voice strained as I examine her ankle. But even as I speak the words, I know it's futile. The angle is wrong, the joint too swollen and angry to be trusted. "Damn it all to hell," I mutter, feeling a surge of frustration well up inside me. "We're trapped."
I grit my teeth, my heart pounding in my chest as I survey our predicament. The pit is deep, the walls closing in around us like a vice. Varikka's breath comes in ragged gasps as she clutches her ankle. But even through the pain, I can see the steel in her eyes. "We'll find a way out," she grunts, her voice strained but resolute. "There has to be..."
