The darkness swallows Varikka and Merrin whole, the only sound the soft creaking of ancient stone beneath their feet. As they descend deeper into the tunnel, the whispers grow louder, more urgent, until they become a maddening chant that echoes off the walls. The air thickens with an otherworldly energy, making it difficult for Varikka to maintain her footing. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath her, and Varikka finds herself tumbling through the air, her mace flying from her grasp. She manages to catch herself on a rusty metal rail, her ankle twisting in a painful grimace. Merrin rushes to her side, helping her steady herself as they both peer into the darkness below. A faint glow emanates from the tunnel's depths, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The Guardian's lair, they realize, is closer than they thought. And the whispers - the Guardian's minions, perhaps, or something far more sinister - are closing in.

Gods... I can barely keep my grip on this rail, my fingers slipping on the rusted metal. Merrin, grab my other hand! Don't let me fall, I can't afford another twisted ankle down here. The chanting echoes through the tunnels, growing louder by the second. Whatever's waiting for us at the bottom of this shaft, it ain't gonna be friendly. I catch a glimpse of my mace lying on the ground a few feet away. Merrin, if you can reach it, grab it quick. I need my weapon if we're gonna have any chance against whatever's down there. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. This is it, Merrin. Our last stand. We fight our way through this mess, or we don't make it out at all. I see the grim determination in your eyes, and I know you feel the same way. We've come too far, lost too many friends, to turn back now. So let's do this. One step at a time, one battle at a time. Together, we can face whatever fresh hell is waiting for us. But first, help me get down from this shaft in one piece. My ankle's killing me, and I don't fancy tumbling headfirst into the Guardian's clutches. Merrin, on my mark, let's climb down together. Slow and steady. And keep your eyes peeled - something tells me we ain't the only ones interested in whatever's waiting at the bottom of this pit.

I feel Varikka's weight shift against me as she clings to the rusted metal rail, her fingers slipping on the slick surface. "Hold on!" I cry out, grabbing her other hand with a firm grip. I can see the pain etched on her face, the grim determination in her eyes. We've come too far to turn back now. I catch a glimpse of Varikka's mace lying on the ground a few feet away. "I'm going for your weapon," I say, my voice strained as I stretch out my arm, fingers brushing against the cool metal. With a final push, I manage to wrap my hand around the handle and pull it towards me. "Got it!" I call out, holding the mace out to Varikka. The chanting echoes through the tunnels, growing louder by the second. Whatever's waiting for us at the bottom of this shaft, it ain't gonna be friendly. I can feel a sense of unease settling in the pit of my stomach, but I know we don't have a choice. We fight our way through this mess, or we don't make it out at all. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever fresh hell is waiting for us. "Alright, Varikka," I say, my voice low and steady. "On my mark, let's climb down together. Slow and steady. And keep your eyes peeled - something tells me we ain't the only ones interested in whatever's waiting at the bottom of this pit."

I grip the rail with one hand, my other hand still clutching Varikka's mace. With a final nod, I begin to descend, my heart pounding in my chest as we make our way deeper into the unknown.
