Round 631 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I help Varikka through the narrow opening, she stumbles and almost falls, her injured ankle giving out beneath her. I catch her by the arm, steadying her as we both manage to squeeze through just before the water sweeps in, filling the tunnel with a foamy, knee-deep current. The debris from the collapse above continues to fall, threatening to crush us at any moment. The water is cold and dark, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. We can hear the sound of rushing water and the faint rumble of the tower's collapse behind us, but there's no sign of the main chamber. We're completely cut off from our previous path. We're now in a narrow, winding tunnel that stretches off into darkness. The air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. We can feel the weight of the rubble above us, and the pressure of the water against our backs.
Merrin: Merrin's heart races as she helps Varikka through the narrow opening, barely making it through before the flood sweeps in behind them. The cold, dark water rises quickly, and Merrin feels a moment of panic as it threatens to pull her off balance. She steadies herself against the wall, her fingers digging into the rough stone. "Varikka, are you alright?" Merrin asks, turning to check on her companion. Varikka nods grimly, her face pale with pain and exhaustion. The tunnel ahead is narrow and winding, disappearing into darkness. The air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. Merrin can feel the weight of the rubble above them, and the constant rumble of the tower's collapse echoes in her ears. "We need to keep moving," Merrin says, her voice strained with effort and worry. "We don't know how much longer this tunnel will hold up."
Varikka nods, bracing herself against the wall with her good leg. Together, they begin to stagger forward, their movements slow and unsteady in the knee-deep water. The current is strong, pulling at Merrin's legs, and she has to fight to keep her balance. As they move deeper into the tunnel, Merrin feels a growing sense of unease. She doesn't know where this passage leads, or if it will even lead them to safety. But with the flood rising behind them and the tower collapsing around them, they have no choice but to keep going. "Stay close," Merrin whispers to Varikka, reaching out to take her hand. "And watch your step. We don't know what's waiting for us in this darkness."
Varrika: I grit my teeth against the pain as Merrin helps me through the narrow opening, my injured ankle screaming with every movement. The flood sweeps in behind us, the cold water soaking through my boots and sending shivers down my spine. I can feel the weight of the rubble above us, the pressure building in my chest as we move deeper into the tunnel.
Merrin's right, we need to keep moving. But with every step, my ankle throbs harder, threatening to give out beneath me. I lean heavily against the wall, using it to support my weight as we stagger forward through the knee-deep water.
