Round 629 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I help Varikka to her feet, she winces in pain from putting weight on her injured ankle. "We need to find higher ground," she says, her voice laced with urgency. "The water is rising fast, and we can't stay here." We scan our surroundings, but the narrow corridor stretches out before us, with no clear escape route in sight. The air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. Suddenly, a loud creaking sound echoes through the shaft, followed by the faint rumble of falling debris.
The ground shakes violently, and I stumble, nearly losing my footing. Varikka cries out in pain as her injured ankle twists beneath her, but we both manage to stay upright. "Varikka, can you walk?" I ask urgently, helping to steady her. She nods, her face pale with pain. "I... I think so. But it hurts like hell."
I glance around frantically, trying to find a way out of this collapsing tunnel. The water is rising fast, and the air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. But then, I spot something - a narrow opening in the wall, just barely visible through the haze. "Come on," I say, grabbing Varikka's arm and helping her towards the gap. "We can make it through there."
Together, we stagger forward, our movements uncoordinated and clumsy. The air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. But even as my lungs burn and my legs ache from exertion, I know that we can't stop. Not until we're safe. As we approach the opening, I realize just how small it is - barely wide enough for us to squeeze through side-by-side. "Varikka, you go first," I say, helping her to crouch down and begin the awkward process of wiggling her way through the narrow gap. "I'll be right behind you."
But as Varikka begins to push herself through, a sudden lurch of the ground sends her tumbling back towards me. I reach out, grabbing her by the waist and hauling her back just as another chunk of stone comes crashing down where she was moments before. "Thank you," she gasps, her face pale with fear and exertion. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Merrin."
I offer her a tight smile, but inside, my heart is racing. We're running out of time - the water is rising fast, and the tower is collapsing around us. "Just keep moving," I tell her, my voice strained. "We'll make it through this together."
And with that, I turn back to the opening, steeling myself for the difficult task ahead. The gap is narrow, and the walls are crumbling, but it's our only chance at survival. And so, with a deep breath and a silent prayer, I begin to push myself through, wiggling and squirming my way into the unknown depths of the tower above.
I grit my teeth against the pain as Merrin helps me stumble towards the narrow opening in the wall. My ankle feels like it's on fire, and every step is agony. But I know we can't stop now - the water is rising fast, and the tower is collapsing around us.
As Merrin helps me crouch down to begin the process of wiggling through the gap, I feel a sudden wave of nausea wash over me. The pain in my ankle is unbearable, and the smoke and ash in the air are making it hard to breathe. But even as my vision starts to blur at the edges, I know that we have to keep moving.
With a deep breath, I begin to push myself through the opening, ignoring the rough stone scraping against my skin. It's a tight fit, and I have to fight the urge to panic as the walls close in around me. But I keep going, inch by inch, until finally - agonizingly - I emerge on the other side.
Merrin is right behind me, her face etched with concern as she helps me to my feet. "Varikka, are you alright?" she asks, her voice strained with effort and worry.
I nod weakly, wincing as I put weight on my injured ankle. "I'll live," I tell her, forcing a grin. "But we need to keep moving. That water is getting closer by the second."
Together, we stagger forward, our movements uncoordinated and clumsy. The air is thick with smoke and ash, making it hard to breathe. But even as my lungs burn and my legs ache from exertion, I know that we can't stop. Not until we're safe.
And so, with Merrin's help, I limp forward, praying that we'll find a way out of this cursed tower before it's too late.
