Round 617 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's eyes lock onto the cryptic message scrawled on the parchment, her mind racing with possibilities. She reads it aloud, her voice barely above a whisper: "Beware the reflection of the past." The Guardian's voice echoes through the tunnel once again, his tone dripping with amusement. "The walls are fragile in this part of the tower. One wrong move and you could bring the whole place down on top of you."
As Varikka finishes reading the message, a faint glow begins to emanate from the walls, illuminating the dusty passage. The Guardian's voice takes on a slightly more ominous tone: "You should have taken my offer. Now, you'll have to navigate this rubble to escape." With that, the ground beneath Varikka gives way, sending her tumbling down a hidden shaft.
I freeze as Varikka tumbles down the hidden shaft, my heart leaping into my throat. "Varikka!" I cry out, scrambling towards the edge of the passage on hands and knees. Peering over the lip, I catch a glimpse of her disappearing into the darkness below, the sound of her falling growing fainter with each passing moment.
My mind races as I try to process what just happened, the Guardian's taunting words still echoing in my ears. "You should have taken my offer. Now, you'll have to navigate this rubble to escape." I grit my teeth, a surge of anger rising up within me at his callous disregard for our well-being.
But I can't afford to dwell on it now. Varikka needs my help, and I have to find a way down to her before it's too late. "Hold on, Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing through the tunnel as I frantically search for a way down. "I'm coming!"
As I crawl along the edge of the passage, my eyes dart from one side to the other, searching for any sign of a path or ladder that might lead down to where Varikka fell. The walls seem to close in around me, the air thick with dust and the stench of decay.
But I can't let my fear show. Merrin needs me to be strong, to lead the way through this maze of rubble and debris. "Don't worry," I mutter under my breath, more to myself than to anyone else. "We'll make it out of here. We have to."
With that thought in mind, I push forward, my mace gripped tightly in my hand as I navigate the treacherous path ahead. The walls seem to close in around us from all sides, and I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched by unseen eyes.
But we have to keep moving. We have to survive this, no matter what it takes.
I let out a cry of pain as I tumble down the hidden shaft, my body bouncing off the rough stone walls as I fall. The world seems to spin around me, the darkness enveloping me like a shroud as I plummet deeper and deeper into the bowels of the tower.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, I land with a thud on a pile of rubble at the bottom of the shaft. I lay there for a moment, my body aching from the fall, as I try to catch my breath. The air is thick with dust and the stench of decay, and I can hear the sound of water dripping somewhere in the distance.
As I struggle to my feet, I realize that my mace has been knocked from my grasp during the fall. I scan the area, my eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness, but I can't see it anywhere. Cursing under my breath, I reach for my crossbow, my hands trembling as I try to steady myself against the wall.
I can hear Merrin's voice echoing down from above, her calls growing fainter with each passing moment. "Varikka! Hold on, I'm coming!" I want to call back to her, to tell her that I'm alright, but I fear that my voice will only draw the attention of whatever lurks in this darkness.
Instead, I grit my teeth and push myself forward, my hands scraping against the rough stone walls as I try to navigate through the rubble. The path ahead is treacherous, littered with debris and sharp edges that threaten to cut me at every turn. But I have no choice but to keep moving, to find a way out of this nightmare before it's too late.
As I stumble through the darkness, I can't shake the feeling that something is watching me from the shadows. The air seems to grow colder with each step, and I can hear whispers and laughter echoing through the tunnels, as if the very walls themselves are mocking my plight.
But I push on, my determination unwavering even as the fear gnaws at the edges of my mind. I will find a way out of this hellhole, no matter what it takes. And when I do, I swear that I will make the Guardian pay for everything he's done to us.
With that thought in mind, I press forward into the darkness, my crossbow at the ready and my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of danger. The path ahead is long and uncertain, but I know that Merrin is counting on me to survive. And by the gods, I will not let her down.
As I push forward, I can hear the sound of water growing louder, the echo of my footsteps bouncing off the walls and mixing with the drip-drip-drip of moisture somewhere in the distance. The air grows colder with each step, and I can feel the dampness seeping through my boots, chilling my feet to the bone.
Suddenly, a beam of light pierces the darkness ahead, illuminating a narrow tunnel that leads off to the side. I pause for a moment, my heart racing as I try to decide whether to investigate or press on down the main path. But as I stand there, debating my options, I hear a faint whispering coming from the direction of the light.
Curiosity and fear war within me, and I find myself drawn towards the source of the sound. With a deep breath, I creep forward, my crossbow at the ready as I approach the edge of the tunnel. The whispers grow louder with each step, and I can make out snatches of conversation that send a chill down my spine.
"...come closer, little one..."
-
"...join us in the darkness..."*
-
"...give yourself to us, and we shall grant you power beyond your wildest dreams..."*
I feel a wave of nausea wash over me as I listen to the sinister voices, the very air seeming to thicken with malice. But before I can turn and flee, I hear a crash from somewhere behind me, followed by the sound of Merrin's voice echoing through the tunnel.
"Varikka! Where are you?"
I open my mouth to call back to her, but the words catch in my throat as I realize that the whispers have fallen silent. The darkness seems to close in around me once more, and I can feel an unseen presence watching me from the shadows.
Swallowing hard, I turn away from the tunnel and begin to make my way back towards the sound of Merrin's voice. The path ahead is still treacherous, but I know that I must find her before it's too late. With each step, I can feel the weight of the tower bearing down on me, the very walls seeming to press in from all sides.
But I will not let this place defeat me. I will find Merrin, and together we will escape this hellhole and bring the Guardian to justice. No matter what it takes, no matter how far we have to go, we will survive this nightmare and emerge stronger than ever before.
