Round 550 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka leans heavily on Merrin's shoulder, her ankle throbbing in agony as the rising water level threatens to engulf them. The air is thick with the stench of decay and the sound of rushing water grows louder with each passing moment. The creature shapes moving beneath the surface of the waters begin to make themselves known, their faint scratching and slapping sounds getting closer. As they scan the chamber for an escape route, a loud crack echoes through the room, and a section of the wall gives way, sending rocks tumbling down the passage. The ground shudders beneath their feet, and Varikka's eyes widen in alarm as she realizes they're now trapped between the rising floodwaters and the falling debris. Merrin's grip on her arm tightens, and she pulls Varikka closer to the ledge they'd found earlier. "We need to move, now!" she shouts above the din of the falling rocks. The water is now at their knees, and it's only a matter of time before it reaches their waist.
I scan the chamber desperately, my heart pounding in my chest as the water rises higher. The creatures beneath the surface seem to be getting bolder, their scratching and slapping sounds growing louder and more frequent.
"Varikka, we need to find a way out of here," I say urgently, my voice trembling with fear. "That ledge won't hold forever, and I don't want to find out what's in that water."
I glance around the room, searching for any sign of an escape route. But all I see are crumbling walls and piles of rubble. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and I know we can't stay here much longer.
"Any ideas?" I ask, turning to Varikka with a pleading look in my eye. "Because right now, I'm fresh out of plans."
Merrin, we need to make our way along the ledge towards that archway on the far side of the chamber. If we can reach it, maybe we can find some kind of hidden passage or secret door that'll lead us to higher ground. I grit my teeth and try to put more weight on my bad ankle, but the pain is excruciating. You're gonna have to help me, Merrin. I can't do this on my own. The water is rising fast, and those creatures in the pool are getting bolder by the second. We need to move now, or we're gonna end up as their dinner. Can you get me up and moving towards that archway? If we work together, maybe we can make it out of this alive.
