Round 548 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's mace crashes down onto the stone floor, the sound echoing through the chamber. The spectral entity recoils, its glowing eyes narrowing in surprise. Varikka takes a step back, her ankle throbbing in pain, but her determination remains unwavering. As she readies herself for another attack, the ground beneath her gives a ominous creak, and the blockage behind her begins to shift. The unstable stone structure overhead groans, its weight threatening to come crashing down. Varikka knows she must act quickly to avoid becoming trapped in the chamber.
I hear Varikka's battle cry echo through the tunnels, and my heart leaps into my throat. I know she's putting herself in danger to give me a chance to escape, but I can't bring myself to abandon her. "Varikka, no!" I shout, turning back towards the sound of her voice. "I won't leave you behind!"
I rush back down the winding staircase, my crossbow at the ready. As I round a corner, I see Varikka standing on the edge of a hidden pit, her mace raised defensively against a pair of glowing eyes in the darkness. The ground beneath my feet feels unstable, and the sound of rushing water grows louder with each passing moment. "Varikka, hold on!" I call out, my voice trembling with fear. "I'm coming to get you!"
I sprint towards her, my feet slipping on the wet stones. As I draw closer, I can see the spectral entity's presence growing stronger, its whispery voice sending chills down my spine. The air seems to vibrate with malevolent energy, and I know we need to act fast. "Varikka, I'm here!" I shout, my voice echoing through the tunnels. "Can you jump back towards me? I'll catch you!"
I reach out with my free hand, ready to grab Varikka's arm and pull her to safety. My crossbow is trained on the glowing eyes, ready to fire at the first sign of danger. I know our chances of survival are slim, but I refuse to let my friend fall into that abyss. "Varikka, please!" I plead, my voice growing more urgent with each passing second. "You have to trust me! Jump back, and I'll catch you!"
I hold my breath, praying that Varikka will listen to my plea. The ground beneath my feet feels unstable, and the sound of rushing water grows louder with each passing moment. I know we can't stay here for long, but I refuse to abandon my friend to her fate. "Jump, Varikka!" I shout, my voice echoing through the tunnels. "Now!"
I brace myself, ready to catch her weight as she leaps towards me. My heart pounds in my chest, and I can feel the sweat dripping down my brow. But I know that whatever happens next, we'll face it together.
I hear Merrin's voice calling out to me, urging me to jump back towards her. For a moment, I hesitate, my ankle throbbing in pain and my heart racing with fear. But then I see the spectral entity's glowing eyes drawing closer, its whispery voice filling me with dread. I know I can't stay here any longer.
"Merrin, catch me!" I shout, taking a deep breath and leaping towards her outstretched hand. As I fly through the air, my mace clatters to the ground below, but I don't care. All that matters is reaching Merrin's grasp.
I feel her fingers close around my wrist, her grip strong and sure. She pulls with all her might, hauling me up and over the edge of the pit just as the entity lunges forward, its claws scraping against the stone.
"Merrin, you crazy fool," I gasp, my voice trembling with relief and exhaustion. "What were you thinking, coming back for me like that?"
But even as I say the words, I know the answer. Merrin is a true friend, one who would risk anything to save those she cares about. And right now, I need her more than ever.
I cling to her arm, my body shaking with pain and adrenaline. The ground beneath our feet feels unstable, and the sound of rushing water grows louder with each passing moment. But for now, we're together, and that's all that matters.
"Come on," I say, struggling to my feet and leaning heavily on Merrin's shoulder. "Let's get out of here before this whole place comes crashing down around us."
Together, we stagger off into the darkness, our hearts pounding and our minds racing. We have no idea what dangers lie ahead, but one thing is certain: we'll face them together, just like we always have.
