Round 545 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The sound of rushing water grows louder as Varikka forces the hidden door open, revealing a narrow, winding stairway that descends into darkness. The air is thick with the smell of damp earth and mold. As she peers down the stairs, Varikka notices a faint, flickering light emanating from the depths below. Merrin's eyes widen in alarm as she realizes that the light may be the only beacon in the darkness. "Varikka, be careful! We don't know what's down there!" she warns, her voice laced with concern. Varikka nods grimly, her grip on her mace tightening. "I'll be fine, Merrin. I have to try and find that sword." With a deep breath, she begins to make her way down the stairs, the sound of rushing water growing louder with each step. Immediate pressure: as Varikka descends into darkness, she realizes that the blockage is unstable, will only hold for a short time, and the Guardian's presence is getting closer. The creature shapes moving beneath the surface of the waters begin to take on more menacing forms, their twisted limbs writhing like living shadow.
Merrin's eyes go wide as the hidden door opens, revealing a dark, winding stairway descending into unknown depths. The halfling scout's heart races as she peers down the stairs, her grip tightening on her crossbow.
"Varikka, wait!" Merrin calls out, her voice laced with concern. "We don't know what's down there! It could be a trap, or worse!"
But as Merrin watches, Varikka begins to make her way down the stairs, her mace held at the ready. The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step, and Merrin can feel the ground beneath her feet shaking more violently.
"Varikka, please be careful!" Merrin pleads, her voice trembling with fear. "We need to stick together if we're going to get out of this alive!"
Merrin's mind races as she tries to come up with a plan, her eyes scanning the chamber for any sign of danger or potential escape routes. The presence of the spectral entity grows stronger, its whispery voice echoing through the chamber and sending chills down the halfling's spine.
"Foolish mortals, you cannot escape your fate," the entity hisses, its tone dripping with malice.
Merrin's heart pounds in her chest as she realizes that they may be trapped in this chamber after all. But she knows that they cannot give up hope, not yet. With a determined nod, the halfling scout begins to make her way down the stairs after Varikka, her crossbow held at the ready and her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger.
As Merrin descends into the depths, she can feel the air growing thicker and more oppressive, the smell of damp earth and mold filling her nostrils. The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step, and Merrin can feel the ground beneath her feet shaking more violently.
"Varikka!" Merrin calls out, her voice echoing through the darkness. "Can you hear me? We need to stick together if we're going to survive this!"
But as Merrin moves deeper into the depths, she suddenly realizes that Varikka has disappeared from view. The halfling's heart races as she realizes that they may have been separated, lost in the twisting labyrinth of tunnels beneath the tower.
"Varikka!" Merrin shouts again, her voice laced with fear and desperation. "Where are you? Answer me, please!"
But only silence greets Merrin's cries, the sound of rushing water drowning out any hope of a response. The halfling's heart sinks as she realizes that they may be lost, trapped in the depths of the tower with no way out and no hope of rescue.
With a deep breath, Merrin begins to make her way deeper into the darkness, her crossbow held at the ready and her eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of Varikka or danger. She knows that they must act fast if they want to survive whatever lies ahead in the depths of this tower, but she also knows that they must be careful not to make matters worse by triggering a collapse or triggering some other trap.
As Merrin moves through the tunnels, she can feel the presence of the spectral entity growing stronger, its whispery voice echoing through the chamber and sending chills down her spine. The halfling's heart pounds in her chest as she realizes that they may be facing something far more powerful than any mere trap or monster.
Varikka's heart pounds as she descends into the darkness, her mace held tightly in her grip. The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step, and the dwarf warrior can feel the ground beneath her feet shaking more violently.
"Merrin, can you hear me?" Varikka calls out, her voice echoing through the tunnels. "I'm down here! Are you alright?"
But only silence greets the dwarf's cries, the sound of rushing water drowning out any hope of a response. Varikka's heart sinks as she realizes that they may have been separated, lost in the twisting labyrinth of tunnels beneath the tower.
"Damn it all," Varikka mutters under her breath, her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger or potential escape routes. "We need to find each other and get out of here before the whole place comes down on our heads!"
As Varikka moves deeper into the depths, she can feel the air growing thicker and more oppressive, the smell of damp earth and mold filling her nostrils. The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step, and the dwarf warrior can feel the ground beneath her feet shaking more violently.
"I know you're down here somewhere, Merrin," Varikka calls out, her voice laced with concern. "Just keep your wits about you and watch for traps! We'll find each other and get out of this cursed place together, or I'll die trying!"
