Round 527 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka takes a step forward, the rustling noise grows louder, and a faint scratching sound echoes from within the narrow opening. The air is thick with dust, and the smell of decay wafts out, making Varikka's stomach churn. Suddenly, a chunk of debris dislodges from the ceiling, sending a shower of dust and rocks cascading down around them, partially blocking their view of the opening. The sound of movement grows louder, and Varikka's grip tightens on her mace as she prepares to face whatever is lurking in the darkness. The tunnel walls are crumbling around them, great chunks of stone and debris raining down from the ceiling with each passing moment. Just as Varikka is about to take another step forward, a loud rumbling noise echoes through the tunnel, causing the ground to shake beneath their feet. The narrow opening begins to widen, revealing a dark cavern beyond, but it's clear that this new passage is not a safe escape route. Varikka and Merrin exchange a worried glance, their eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger. They know they can't stay here for long, but they also know they can't risk moving forward without knowing what lurks in the shadows.
I feel my heart pounding in my chest as I listen to the rustling and scratching coming from within the opening. The air is thick with dust and the smell of decay, making my stomach churn with unease. But as Varikka takes a step forward, ready to face whatever lurks in the darkness, I find myself hesitating. The tunnel walls are crumbling around us, great chunks of stone and debris raining down from the ceiling with each passing moment. It's like being caught in a storm at sea, the waves crashing against the rocks and threatening to pull us under at any moment. Suddenly, a loud rumbling noise echoes through the tunnel, causing the ground to shake beneath our feet. The narrow opening begins to widen, revealing a dark cavern beyond, but it's clear that this new passage is not a safe escape route. I glance at Varikka, my eyes wide with concern. "Wait," I say softly, my voice barely audible over the groaning of the tunnel walls. "We don't know what's in there. It could be another trap, or something even worse than the Guardian."
Varikka's eyes narrow, her grip tightening on her mace as she prepares to face whatever is lurking in the darkness. "We can't stay here," she says firmly, her voice low and even. "This place is coming down around our ears. We've got to keep moving if we want to survive."
I know she's right, but the thought of moving forward into the unknown fills me with a sense of dread. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever may come. "Alright," I say softly, my voice barely audible over the groaning of the tunnel walls. "Let's stay sharp and be ready for anything. But we need to go slow - we can't afford to rush into another trap or get caught off guard by whatever is lurking in those shadows."
And with a final nod of grim determination, Varikka and I begin to pick our way forward through the crumbling ruins, our hearts pounding in our chests as we pray to whatever gods are listening that we make it out of here alive.
Varikka's eyes narrow as she peers into the dark opening, her mace at the ready. The sound of movement grows louder, and a sense of unease creeps over her. She glances back at Merrin, her voice hushed as she speaks.
"You're right," she whispers, her gaze fixed on the shadows. "We don't know what's in there. But we can't stay here - this place is coming down around our ears."
Varikka takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever may come. The tunnel walls are crumbling around them, great chunks of stone and debris raining down from the ceiling with each passing moment. It's like being caught in a storm at sea, the waves crashing against the rocks and threatening to pull them under at any moment. But Varikka refuses to let fear take hold - she's fought through worse than this, and she won't let some unknown creature stop her now.
She takes a step forward, her mace at the ready as she prepares to face whatever is lurking in the darkness. The rustling grows louder, and Varikka's grip tightens on her weapon, her muscles tensing as she braces for an attack. Whatever is in there, it's coming for them - and Varikka will be ready to meet it head-on, no matter the cost.
But even as she steps forward, a part of her wonders if Merrin is right. Could this be another trap, or something even worse than the Guardian? The thought sends a chill down her spine, but she pushes it aside. They can't afford to hesitate, not with the tunnel collapsing around them and no other way out. Varikka takes another step forward, her heart pounding in her chest as she prepares to face whatever lies ahead.
