Round 521 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka sets herself down, she glances around frantically, taking in their surroundings. The path behind them is now a churning sea of water and debris, with the sound of rushing water growing louder with each passing moment. "We need to find a way out of here, now," she says, her voice laced with desperation. "Merrin, can you feel that?"
"Set me down for a moment," Varikka says, her words laced with urgency. "I have an idea, but we need to move fast."
I do as she says, lowering her gently to the ground and steadying her against the wall of the tunnel. The sound of rushing water is growing louder now, the sound of it crashing against the rocks almost deafening. "What's your plan?" I ask, my voice barely audible over the din. "We can't stay here much longer."
Varikka takes a deep breath, her eyes scanning the tunnel ahead of us. "I think I see a ledge up there," she says, pointing to a narrow strip of stone that juts out from the wall about ten feet above us. "If we can make it up there, we might be able to climb out of this tunnel and find another way out."
I follow her gaze, my heart sinking as I see the treacherous path ahead of us. The ledge is narrow, barely wide enough for a person to stand on, and the wall of the tunnel is slick with water and debris. "But how are we going to get up there?" I ask, my voice trembling with fear. "I don't think I can carry you that far, not with my ankle in this shape."
Varikka looks at me, her eyes filled with determination. "Then we'll have to climb," she says, her words coming out in a strained whisper. "We don't have a choice. We have to try."
She reaches for the sword at her side, her fingers closing around its hilt as she struggles to stand. "Help me up," she says, her voice tinged with pain. "And then we'll climb."
I nod, my heart pounding in my chest as I help Varikka to her feet. The sound of rushing water is getting louder now, the sound of it crashing against the rocks almost deafening. But even as we start to make our way towards the ledge, I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. The air is thick with the smell of noxious gas, and the ground beneath our feet is growing more unstable with each passing moment. "Varikka," I say, my voice barely audible over the din. "I don't think this is going to work. We need to find another way out of here."
But even as I speak, I can see the determination in Varikka's eyes, the stubborn set of her jaw as she pushes forward, ignoring the pain in her ankle and the weight of the sword at her side. And so we climb, our fingers scrabbling for purchase on the slick stone as we make our way towards the ledge, praying that we'll find a way out of this nightmarish tunnel before it's too late.
I grit my teeth against the pain as Merrin helps me to my feet, my ankle throbbing with each step.
